Default What is the next big thing?

Ok, so what is the next 'big' thing to hit airframe wise?

We had a run on Caps, then Edges. Next up the Yak 54 hit big followed by a minor splash from the Yak 55SPM, Votec and MX2. And of course, now everyone is releasing an Extra 260 again.....

So what is the next airframe that is going to be the hot $#!+?????

(Disclaimer.... I'm a designer, and I'm trying to keep ahead of the game...... I have my own thoughts, but its always good to hear what others think!)

I would like to see some new full scale designs... but that market has been pretty stagnent for a bunch of years now. We need something new... improved... and badass!

There are so many kits of every model out there that there will probably not be another craze like the run for the yaks. Things like katanas yaks edges extras caps votecs will probably remain popular and some slightly more than others at times but there will probably never be a big disproportion.

I imagine some of the ones that have done very well in the market which is basically all of the above fly very well in their scaled down model form.

Maybe the mx2 will be the next one to be built by several companies but I bet it comes down to how well a model flys and is built that really determines how it sells.

The market full of arf’s of all the aforementioned has exploded so now there are kits of every plane. For example the Extra 260 which is made by several companies, hangar 9, airwild, Dalton and probably others. This makes it hard for one of the many aerobatic planes to become popular.

Maybe the consumer is looking for something new and different that fly’s well like a sukhoi or some new byp. That would probably be your best shot for some new buying frenzy.

Hopefully the next big thing will be that AMA regulations change and take away the 10% rule and also allow modifications like the SFG's during AMA sponsored freestyle events. Or something similar.
IMO the next big thing will just keep going circles unless some rule changes are made. As Biff mentioned in an earlier post "we need to take this to the next level". Mark Leseberg is on this wagon too. He is a big supporter of 'change'. Whether or not we see a major change in the hobby is directly related to AMA accepting the fact that changes in the rules are nessesary to take the hobby to next level. As it stands, new aircraft designs are not coming along at a fast enough rate to keep up with our modeling and progression of skills. So we will just continue to go circles in "the next biggest thing" I dont mean to hijack your thread here so I will 'guess' as to what next will be 'repeated' again.
And it looks like the winner in my crystal ball is------ an Extra (of some sort)

wait a second, Mabey it's the Pitts Python---Uhhhhh?? eh Hmmm??

I think the biggest thing will be sfg's and aero tweaks on what we have going. I am curious as to why we have not seen any Extra 200's. Just because the Extras are bonkers again. I think that Yak 55 SP with a real canopy/turtledeck would be cool. I love that bubble canopy. Too bad the designers out there made it into a Yak 54 with a Yak 55 rudder. Thanks for startin the thread...
