I use a 9 channel rx as largest RX- when I run short of inputs -just add a HD, Y harness and stick the battery(s) in there two al --two el - 1 rud and one throt and one choke total =7 ch slots used (and a batt). for the big pig models I do use 9ch to get another rudder channel
for anything up to a 40% model the new servos on the market kill any need for doubled up rudder servos . Only after someone flies my 33% EDGE do I tell em which servos are used in it. done right - there is little need for anything over about 140 in oz servos in planes up to inc 35%. 6 volts , really low impedance batts with dual feed , makes full torque . |

I have done the Y-harness trick for more power inputs, but it is still lacking in programmability...
I hear you on the rudder servo bunching - I have a single 5955 in my 35% 260 and it does fine.

Have to agree with many of the comments posted by Bodywerks, I'm going to wait and see what XPS releases hopefully by 2007.
I'm having no problems with my 14MZ and really enjoying just some of its features. I have never had a transmitter that allows me to program one channel with triple rates and expo, then slave 5 additional channels to that one channel, and have each and every servo respond in perfect unison(BAD ASS). Really looking forward to jumping into the 2.4Ghz world just not willing to settle for less than what I have. Not when a 2.4Ghz conversion is just around the corner.

How many P-Mixes does this one have? Also wonder if it has the mixes like a 9303 for wing and elevator types?

wing -yes - elevator no -- but does have trim inclusive mixes - read Horizon Hobby review/features.
jeeze -for the price and features -this 7 blows everything else out of the water for up to 40% planes which use toooo many servos . Iwent to 8611A's and a BIG , modern.30 amp output NIMH (4300ma) on my 42% - I don't dare try to stall the servos on this turkey - something will bend or bust- I am sure I could do a good pushrod system on this thing and use one servo for each function. one for both ailerons and one for both elevators etc.. read Mike Mc's review about flying it . As it stands I see very little downside except that it is not offered as a module update which fits my 10x and 9303. Last edited by dick hanson; 10-21-2006 at 12:25 PM. |

and that it is lacking in multipoint mixes, programmable servo speed, etc.

I think it is a big step and will literally change the way we fly in that frequency worries are a thing of the past.
However, I am not willing to settle for a lesser featured radio simply to get it.

Ditto to what Judge said. Jude you told me "the Dark Side" had a radio waiting for me, but I WILL NOT settle just to get some features I want. I want a 2.4ghz system that is full range and has 10+ channels on it and I really want it to have two big, red letters from the alphabet on it!!! Of course if it says Spektrum in orange that wil be O.K. too, but I ain't flying a low class radio to get SS. I have a DX6 for my foamies. That is all it is for. I am STILL holding out for my 10X replacement. My 10X is almost 8 years old. If "the Dark Side" made a 2.4ghz solution for a 12Z that would push me over the edge. I'd throw 15 years of JR away for that. I'll take that to get me to convert. JR has one foot in the grave, but they aren't dead yet.

If JR dont do something soon and someone else comes out with a 10+ss system they will be dead. it must start making an inpact with 6 and 7 chanel now on the market. Just if a retailer realesed a 40 size trainer package in ss it would take of faster.

Not sure if this information has been posted in another place on FG but figured it couldn't hurt to tag it to this on-going discussion of spread sprectrum
Another new item, and one that is currently available, is the Futaba 2.4GHz FASST transmitter module and receiver for the popular Futaba 3PK radio system. Simply replace the stock transmitter frequency module and receiver, and replace them with the 2.4GHz module and R603FS receiver. Now you're ready to hit the track and never worry about what channel you or your buddies are on. http://image2.rcuniverse.com/forum/u...35/Au56659.jpg If anyone thinks that the large manufacturer's like Futaba and JR aren't already on top of this with product-line extensions for Planes and Heli's just "waiting in the wings" they have to be kidding themselves.... Bill,
The people who know tell me that Spektrum and JR are NOT in bed wtih each other totally and that do NOT expect to see Spektrum technology just show up in a new JR TX. Spektrum ain't sharing their R&D with anyone, but there most certainly is a link between the two. There was a guy on here who said Spektrum is simply buying OEM parts from JR. Not that simple. My DX6 100% IS a JR 662 with a 2.4ghz built in modle in it. He said Spektrum could use any TX or make their own to produce units. If they tried to use anything other than JR, JR would leave them I promise you. Need we forget all the SERVOS JR has designed and sold. Ah, no. Horizon can't bite off and design, switches, servos, gyros and 100% of the TX so easily. Horizon needs JR as much as JR does Horizon. It is probally more of a 50/50 deal then you think. Only time will tell, but if/when JR has a SS system in their radios I promise you it will not be self designed. Each system I have ever seen is unique and won't work with a different brand. I doubt JR would sell OEM redios and software for them to a competitor. Who cuts their own thoat??? Horizon would have a conflict of interest then. Who wouldn't promote their own product over others??? All I know is I NEED 10+ channels with a lithium battery in the TX so it STAYS charged and I don;t have to charge the TX EVERY time I want to run to the field and it must be SS. I want JR programming and ease of use. Now, JR or Spektrum can decide who wants to sell me one more and make it! Norman Ross Jr. |
