Yup, I get more flying in winter sometimes as I play summer league football. Some good fun to be had marking out a small landing box in the snow and doing spot landings or touch and goes with a funfly

I have flown in as low at -15c... even big gassers and glows. You have to use LiIo as they don't drop off when cold. You also need a trans-mitt and you have to watch your Tx batteries very closely. I flew a lot last winter because I was still learning. I plan to fly the sim mostly this winter. But it can be done! We even plow our runway here LOL.
The easiest thing is to fly small electrics. Keep the batteries in your pocket and make short flights because the LiPo's freeze and lose power fast. On a sunny day, just below freezing on a plowed runway the flying is incredible. Huge power, all the surfaces work better and you don't need a mitt when the sun is out... |

I've done a bunch of flying off ski's. The only problem is you have to wait for the snow to get a crusty layer on it. If it's too soft the plane will just sink up to it's belly.
The performance is incredable compared to a hot 90 deg day. |

Here in Texas I was flying outside with a T shirt on. The sun was shining and it was about 65 I think.
For some odd reason I get more flying in during the school year and winter than in the summer. |

Well let's see now. Last year I hand-launched my profiles just so I could get some flying in. This year I will be living in Texas, YEAR ROUND FLYING!!!!!!!
I am leaving on Monday, heading to the Tucson Shootout first, hang with some friends and then leave for Texas. The weather report for Monday says, Snow and Rain mix is likely...I guess I'm leaving just in time

I have flown off skis, and hand launched without landing gear and belly landed on the snow. Hopefully we won't have much this year, but we are due for a bad winter.
