WOW!! 41.3 ounces!!! I have parkflyers heavier than that!
Just messin' with ya - I know what you meant... By the looks of it, you made some very key design changes that I am sure will make the plane fly much more neutral (higher wing, lower stab, slightly longer tail moment?). You might just bring back the Sukhoi!!!! 41 pounds might be a little too much weight for the 150 up here in the nosebleed, but when I win it, I'll just slap a 210 in it and be set, or I'll just keep it in California where 41 pounds won't matter to the DA!

A couple things that are obvious and pretty much necessary to make it fly right for R/C is to adjust the height of the wings and stabs to bring them closer to the thrustline to make it fly more neutral. That is most likely what you are seeing that is different about it. I also imagine the tail moment being a little longer. I can't wait to take this puppy home!

I agree with what some believed to be bad habits.........but I think that was from older designs and older heavier engines which basically brought the airframe in overweight. The wing loading just got too high.
I don't doubt it will fly anything short of great, espically after getting to twiddle the sticks on my budies 35% Aerotech Yak. Even though it came in at 30lbs RTF...the DA 100 yanks it with authority and the flight envelope is amazing. I think you hit the nail on the head about the wings, and tail being moved, but I think canopy is the real kicker. It looks like it was taken directly off the Yak. Turtle deck and Rudder size also look off. Just the proportion thing. It's a tough decision, Aerotech 35% Suk when it comes out or a WH Suk. Decisions Decisions. HP |

Hello,
First note is, no the canopy is different but more streamlined than scale. Also in making the planes wing position and stab position like the scale plane, the coupling would be unacceptable for any modeler to deal with. So some suttle changes from scale to make it perform for IMAC and 3D are a must. I just opened an email with a guy saying hey all you did was change you Extra into a Sukhoi. I wrote back, Sir I wish it was that easy and please clean your glasses. Lastly again thanks to all our co-sponsors and my guys in the shop. They go above and beyond the call of duty. The plane is on the way as of 9:30 pm and Im going to eat my dinner. Later John |

I agree that for IMAC the higher wing and lowered stab would be very beneficial. However, Caps have the same low wing and high stab as the full scale Sukhoi and RC Caps 3D excellent as long as the wingloading is light. I think a more true to scale Sukhoi would perform 3D well as long as it is built light. No disrespect to John's plane as it looks awesome and surely will fly great. But I'd love to see a second Sukhoi that looks completely scale and will 3D well. Maybe 2 versions John? I know that's a lot to ask....

Hello,
Well the Cap is a much different design as compaired to the Sukhoi. We have tried the stab is a few positions and this combination is the ticket. Im glad you like it. Thanks John |

John-- since this is a kit....couldn't you laser cut two stab locations in the wood and the builder pick where they want it? Since I havne't seen actual construction photo's I don't know if this is even an option.

Hello,
They could do this them self. But I can tell you that it works best here. Higher means coupling. Later John |

Again, Kudos to everyone at Aerotech and the companies that made it happen! If there was a vinyl graphics sponsor, can you have him cut my name? I'll need them before I take delivery...
