BME 50cc Yak?

Anyone flying the BME 50cc Yak? If so how do you like it, how does it fly?

I've had two, but lost the second on the maiden flight (sigh). Loved the first one. Very smooth, almost no coupling, don't know weight but it flew very light.

I tried to buy a third one recently, but as it turns out they were changing hands and I couldn't get any response out of them so bought an Aviation Models Yak (a process which wasn't much better than trying to get the BME). I would buy another in a heart beat.

BTW, I had a BME 50 pulling her.

I've got one. BME 50, BME 22X8, TME smoke, Smart-Fly power expander,,,only had 2 flights on it. LUV IT.
Just got a Aeroworks 75cc Yak. w/3W 75iUS,,, Im sure I'll LUV IT too.

Are they discontinued? They are a tick heavy, but fly relatively light. They are durable, I know that!!!

Thanks for the replys guys. I haven't tryed to purchase one yet but I am very tempted. Don't like the colors at all but it looks so smooth.

Ive also had two, lost one to radio and one to being stupid. Ownership of the company did change hands, and that is a goodf thing for us, it was very hard to resolve some issues with the first one. Getting a new fuse because of a crooked vertical stab for the second one was an easy process. They do fly well, couldn't tell you weight, but guessing 17 with Nimh. The hardware is pretty nice, but the threaded rod for the surfaces bends easy. There was hardly any coupling, it did rock somewhat in a harrier. Its nice that it has a wing area that is on the large side for a 50cc so it feels pretty light in the air. I would say go for it. The only other issue I know of, hopefully fixed by now is that the first ones the fiberglass gear had manufacturing defects, ie large holes at crucial areas, like the shoulder bend. These were filled in with some sort of filler before the paint, so you could not tell. First landing both gears gave, not a tough landing either. They didnt brake just cracked, so plane was not hurt. What sucks about this possible problem is that you just dont know until you try it.

Could anyone flying this airplane provide a list of items that I should replace?
I bought this airplane about one year ago, it's been in the box ever since then.
Which of the original items shoudl I better replace? for instance tail gear, someone mentioned to me that the provided tail gear is too fragil. Which one you are using?
What about weight reduction? Is there any light weight0substitute for the wing tube and LG?
Your inputs appreciated.

Is the one you have the version 2 with the pipe tunnel? I have little over 3 gallons through mine and so far I have had zero problems with the Main Landing gear,plenty strong for me. My original tail gear did break but they replaced it with another set of original and they have been fine since then. No reason to worry about making it any lighter. Mine is just over 16lbs dry,it's one of the lightest Yaks out there. I am even using a canister and header and it's at that weight that I mentioned. The wing and tail are already CF and the gear is fiberglass. My last landing with it was a pancake and the gear didnt break..

Just build it and fly it..

it is not, it is the 1st generation of BME YAK that arrived from China, imported by someone called "Max" in Canada. It does not have tunnel already built.

As a mater of fact I ignored that BME produced the YAK with such feature. I will have to built mine for this particular airframe.

My target is 16 lbs. Maybe more than this, as I mentioned , I am planning to install a tunned pipe, ZDZ 50 RV.

I need that extra power for this altitud.

Could anyone post pictures showing this tunnel so that I can reproduce the idea?

Very useful information.
However the YAK LG and wing position is somewhat different. With the Edge you have the luxury of a relatively high wing location, which can accommodate a pipe tunnel relatively easy.

I'll hide the pipe as much as possible. As far as I know, the pipe does not have to be fully buried inside the fuselage.

Mine was a V-1 that came as an ARC. I did quite a bit of lightening and reinforced the stock FG gear. All up weight is 16 lbs 1 oz. with a Brison 3.2. Flying: Very little rudder coupling, strong rudder authority, a little wing rock in upright, plenty of aileron in stalled conditions.
