Default Great Planes Extra 330L wood kit...

I'm looking for opinions from those of you who have built this one.

From perusing the manual, it looks to be a straight-forward build; just on a larger scale.

Any gremlins to watch out for?

Steve, there are a couple of build threads here on the plane done by "sleepy c" and "rob b". Those would be the guys to ask. Rob is finishing his up now and Sleepy is right in the middle of it.

Hey Steve. The biggest thing you definately want to do is reinforce the the ribs that encase the phenolic wing tubes. I've heard of the wing busting out of the wing tube in flight from more than person. If you reinforce the wing ribs around the tube, this wont be a problem. Also, I moved the hinge line on the horizontal stab foward, to increase the elevator size. Outside of that, its just like any other build.

Yep, Rob nailed it... its a straight forward build... just make sure its all straight.
And I did the Wing rib mod, but i left the elevators alone, i wanted this plane to fly more IMAC,
and I'm not a building master yet so I wanted to follow the instructions as much as possible.

Rob's build was awsome, it actually inspired me to do mine!

i have a buld thread started... check it out in the Git R done section. I actually should be working on it tonight!

Good luck!

Hi, I started a GP Extra 330L too and it will be my second giant... I lost last week my h9 extra 330L 33%...

Rob, I noted that the elevator size is not so big too. How much did you increase the elevator?

tks Ed from Brasil

This one will probably be my first "retirement project" (418 days- but who's counting???).

I'm buttoning up my first foray into gas as we speak; I put a BME 50 into my Hangar 9 Extra 260 27%.

With any luck, I might have a clue about this gasoline business (actually, I'm going to run white gas/camp fuel) by the time I begin this kit.

Is there an advantage to using white gas? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing this before.... That is a good looking kit by the way.

Beautiful job on the finish! My Dad built one of these and it flies awesome! Low hi alpha knife edge passes are cool. Don't let the small control surfaces full ya....flat spins both inverted and upright are flat as can be. Good luck on the maiden if you haven't already....
