Default hitec servos

I am going to use hitec 5985 servos on my AW260 and was wondering if any of you guys using them has switched the rotation of the elevator servos to make them both go in the same direction. I am using the programmer and did this last night, it seems to work good, using a y extension on both the elevator servos. dont know if this will cause any problems, dont want to do in a new plane. any info would be greatly apperciated. thanks Rob

Hey Rob,

That's what they are designed to do, it works great as long as you set the endpoints, as mentioned above. Just make sure they are both starting and stopping at the same point, all good!!

Wye harnesses and extensions are not a problem provided quality heavy duty wiring with gold-plated connectors are utilized in the manufacture of said components.

Setting the end-points and centers is desirable BUT unless you match the elevator travel arcs your loosing an uphill battle. Because all things are not perfect in our model world your model likely has slight variations in surface thickness, control arm location, pivot heights and offsets. This allows the surfaces to realize different travel arc ratios, thus allowing one halve to move slighter faster, farther or shorter than the latter.

Best case setup is to match your elevator travel arc volumes while maintaining equal servo angle in both directions. The link to DOD offers some insight in this regard. After you have the mechanical set-up right, use the programmer and TX capabilities to dial it all in.

I second what Mike said. Once done this way, its done perfect. If you have the ability, you may want to consider dumping the Y and plugging the other servo into another channel, and slaving it to the elevator channel.
