Default Getting Into Gas?

Hey guys,

Just getting my first 3d plane done, the Funtana 40. I know it will be a blast, but I also know I will want to move up to gas planes. That or planes with big 4 strokes in them, but you know, giant scale... Anyways, im onyl 16, I have a job, but what can I expect to be spending? I dont want like the nicest stuff, but what is a reasonable base price for gas? That, or just planes 75+ inches wing span? I dont know alot about gas period, but I do have some guys at my club that I can talk to about specifics. Just trying to get a good idea

heres a run down
plane -400-600
engine- 350 (used)- 700 (new including everything rtf)
servos- 275- 450
batterys's- 70 (nimh with switchs)-500 (lion- rtr)
rec- 150
100-200 in miscelaneous like glue, tank, wheels etc
all in all, for a plane that has used equip, that is only decent, your looking at 1200-1400 and for the top of the line, where everything is new (1500-2000). my best advice is to save up more money and buy the best you can get, youll be happier in the longrun!

Best plane for the money is to save up about 1500 and buy a rtf 50cc plane that has good EQ good servos good batteries and so on if it doesnt have the good EQ drop expected price say 1200 for a lesser equiped plane just ask around these forums when you have the cash and we tend to find the good deals for ya.

look after 2 seconds looking i found a great deal
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=230643 for 1500 you get this plane with zdz80 8611s low end batteries but you can up grade later on if you like other wise looks like a great deal to me

Other wise you can set up a new 33%er from wild hare for about $2300 plus, with a little lesser new gear

Another good deal plane is a little beat up but good gear. Fly this arf beat it up a while order the newer vrs Wild hare extra for 430 bucks after you beat this one up
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=232573

The 1/3 scale 1500 plane is the best deal i can find thus far.

Well, thanks guys. I have been looking on Rcu for planes too. A cool deal I found I might look into, is 800, which is for a Quique Yak 54, with a Ys 110, and decent servos, third link I think. Heres a few good deals I found, tell me what you think:

two things, dont just rush into this. do your re-search!
second, save your money, just another few hundred will get you a 50cc gas plane. dont waste your money just because you think it will take you forever to save the rest. DO IT THE RIGHT WAY!

the QQ is the only one i would consider but then your still stuck with glow; the other 2 planes are gonna be on the heavy side.

I dont, well, I know I shoudl wait, but with being only 16, 1500 dollars is alot to spend. I mean no matter how old you are, you can buy alot for 1500 dollars, so its just a little hard to go and spend that much. Also, I mean I dont need it to be Gas necessarily, I should have clarified, I just want it bigger. Like 80+ inches

again, if you dont have the money dont waste it on something you wont like. 1200-1500 is what your going to have to spend on a 80" ws plane, no was around it. save your money so you can get what you really want!

Boarder, I can tell you that Youngflyer has given advice that is wise beyond his years. Take your time and do it right.

This past spring/summer I decided to go with a big gasser for the first time in my 20+ yrs in the hobby. I was tempted to build something smaller, however after getting advice similar to Youngflyer's, I decided to hold out and wait.

I ended up with a 35% bird that is beautifully built and wonderful in the air. Take his advice, you won't be sorry you did.
