Kyles freestyle was unreal. In my opinion it was worth a first. Quique's was good, but Kyles was awesome. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I never seen any of these guys fly, and man do I SUCK!!! Looks like I've got alot of llearning to do.

Remember, there is no score for "low flying" in the judging criteria. If you break QQ's flight down and apply it to the judging criteria it will better make sense. If you want an airshow, Kyle has it hands down, no contest. BUT.....this is not an airshow, this is a freestyle contest. I am not by any means trying to put down Kyle's free, I just think he should pay a little more closer attention to the judging criteria so he can improve on his placings. Kyle got away wth one big time today by touching his tailwheel on the ground. Everyone saw it (including him I'm sure) That's an instant DQ. I agree with you that his frestyle is amazing, but I do not think he should have beat QQ.

It was a very fast and very low rolling half loop. It would have been sick if he would have pulled it off plus I really wanted to see the rest of his free style becuase the start was pretty nice, but u know things happen.

I agree Jason.....seems to me that anymore that freestyle has become a contest of who can get the lowest and closest to the ground, yea, its exciting to watch and takes some skill, but to me freestyle is still very precision flying but flown to music, or it should be. Thought that was what freestyle was all about ?

Jason,

There are times I really get wish that the term Freestyle meant freestyle I sure didnt hear the crowd booing when Kyle was flying. If ya ask me the judges should
listen to the crowd - to be honest I keep watching Shulman, You , Quique and to be quite honest I am in awe of their skill in the knowns and unknowns - it completely blows me away . but in the freestyle - I mean it should be freestyle not IMAC style free style. Back in the day when Chip, Jason and Christophe were doing more 3D type stuff it was quite appealing (actually pretty jaw dropping stuff) now we are seeing less of it and more IMAC type stuff showing up in freestyle. Lets face it doing 3D is very difficult and should be rewarded for skill and precision at low level. Of course if you touch - game over. I just think that sometimes just becasue your a Shulman or a Noll, or a Quique tends to bend the judging a bit... Now you have to temper my two cents because Kyle is home boy also... IMHO

Known and Unknown portions of the contest are precision aerobatic sequences judged using the current IMAC rules. The Invitational class had several Knowns given to them before the contest. The Unknowns are handed out the day before they are flown.

The Freestyle is actually a separate contest within the main contest. It is a 4-minute anything goes flight where each pilot does his best to wow the judges. Having said that, there ARE criteria for judging.

They are here: http://www.desertaircraft.com/shooto...our-Minute.pdf

As Jason points out, how low you can go is NOT one of them. Having judged more than my fair share of these things I can tell you that simply going low is not enough. The guy who wins is the one who best fulfilled the criteria.

I agree with judge. Sorry dude. But there is actually judging criteria applied to the freestyle. It is broken down into several elements. If you read it, you'll see exactly why QQ is #1.
