Default JR 8611a problems check yours now!

a teck at horizon service told me today that they had a bad batch of 8611a's with bad motors that can lock up. they have a bulliten in there web site to warn buyers. this is after i had one start to act up on elevator after only 30 flights, i sent it back and they replaced it saying they had no problems. then after 60 flights i had a rudder servo lock up while on the ground so i sent it back and JR replaced it and said they had no problem. so the i installed all ne 8611's in a new comp arf 2.6 meter extra and the 1st day on the 12th flight a elevator servo locked out and overloaded the receiver causing a total loss of a very nice and expensive airframe. i sent the servo back and they replaced it and said the were have no problems again. this has all happened in the last 8 to 12 weeks. i am very unhappy with the way JR has handled this, they could have told me they were having problems before i lost a plane. the had 3 chances to do the right thing and chose to hide it at my expence. i had to find this out on another forum and call and corner them to get them to tell me about the problem. sorry for the long rant but everyone using JR 8611's should check them before flying again. i will be using Futaba from now on.

yeah, i lost respect when I brought this to there attention on the tech support site, wether it was here or flying circus, I cant remember. Same comment, he is not aware of any issues and is not a concern with Horizon.... and then he closed the thread. so I went to Hi-tech and have been a happy camper since. until it happens to one of the big names, they arent going to do anything about it, or peoples losses.

shame about your loss and your issues. I have almost all Hitecs now on my big birds except 1 50cc bird that has the older 8611's that still works well. Once the season ends I will replace with 5955's

hmmm... I got a brand new JR 8611a servo from horizon couple months ago because one of my older 8611's was messed up, so they gave me the new 8611a, and i had it ganged up with 3 other rudder servos on my comp-arf for the rudder, and when i was flying the plane, i was entering a slow, long roll, and i noticed that my plane was coupling really bad and that the rudder had no affect. There was also about a 12mph crosswind. So i came to land the plane but i came from right to left because my rudder was stuck at 45*, but since there was crosswind, i came from the wrong direction because my plane was getting pulled into the pits, so i powered up, flying like im sliding, and came around from left to right, when i came from the left, my plane started to straighten up because i was lucky that i had crosswind. So i was lucky that i didn't lose a 40% for a stupid issue. So i took the servo out and send it back to horizon, and they replaced it with a new one, and it now works great! I love the service from Horizon Hobby!

Here we go again..... I'm glad to see we here in Oklahoma were not just crazy after all. Sorry to hear about your loss Randy. We just sent out 3 more to horizon, believe it or not they are actually replacing them for free, but, they tell us its due to over amping not bad motors... Hmmmmmm.....My 3305's have made it more flights then my 8611's so far.

i have used JR for several years 1st in cars then planes, and have always received great service. this time i feel they knew about a problem and tried to hide it causing the loss on a new plane. God only knows how many other people have had trouble or lost planes or how many more will loss planes if we don't get the word out.
in this hobby there are several things that can cause a plane to go in, bad set ups, bad thumbs, and all the little parts and pieces in them. there some stand up companys like QQ aircraft co that has had some trouble in the past but the got on the forums and warned everyone they could and also went beyond the call to replace bad parts and take care of there customers that had losses. a company the size of Horizon should be able to step up and say they have problems and take care of there loyal customers. i spent over 8000.00 on JR radios, servos, extensions, and switches last year and i plan on spending that much or more with Futaba this year.

Boy how things come full circle. Seems like just yesterday guys were reporting losses due to Hitec "junk" servos - if you have been here or on FC or RCU for any length of time you remember all of the posts. Now that JR has become the current "junk", I guess Futaba is next? Oh wait - I experienced a loss due to a Futaba admitted receiver failure, and have had Futaba servo failures so I guess they are junk too. So maybe we should put Bluebirds in our GS stuff?
Bottom line is it is ridiculous to think any of these manufacturers would knowingly sell "junk". Even employing the best of quality assurance practices does not guarantee a manufactured product will not fail before it's time. These companies all seem to handle their product problems in a similar manner - too slow for some of us unfortunately but usually in plenty of time for most. And yes I know how much it sucks to be in that first group.
All we can do is be informed on the facts, install what we prefer, be diligent about maintenance and know that at some point, something in our very expensive toys WILL fail.
Thats just my opinion but I could be wrong....

i understand what you are saying stix, but i had three in a very short time go bad and i talked to JR service three times and all three they said they were having no problems. if they know there is a problem they should tell us before more people loose high prices planes and not hide a bulliton on the horizon site to cover there a$$. i have killed a few planes on my own and can deal with it, if you can't stand to see them crash keep them on the ground. i am very able to kill my own planes and i don't need JR's help.
