It's the Airwild 300L (well, 330L). Seeing it in person confirms that it is about the ugliest 300L I have ever seen! Wings seem way out of proportion, nose is too long and tail moment is too short. Seemed to fly the freestyle stuff OK, though.

The Kit was a Coilombo Anderson 38% Extra. There is a full rib of 1/8" lite ply at the end of the tube. What I think happened is that the wing tube shifted to one side thus bringing the end of the wing tube on the other wing to the inside of this rib where there is no support. the wings come pre sheeted so there is nothing else you could do but put a stop in the phenolic before the phenolic is installed. If the airplane is built the hose clamp method works just fine.

Shawn, Jeff flew the CA after the wing came off in flight on his Airwild Extra. He did not loose the CA's wing. Look up the thread "good and bad pics" and you will see his Airwild Extra without the wing.

You guys are correct.....as I spoke with Jeffrey numerous times on Sunday.

I was wrong the 260...it is the AIRWILD 300 or 330 (whatever they call it) and its a 35%.

He was offered Zak's West 35% QQ Yak to fly instead (which used to be Magoo's but he sold it to Zak a few weeks back for freestyle). He declined and decided to fly the CA EXTRA

He was worried if he wrang out the CA that it would explode so he flew somewhat conservative. If you call a 2ft high slow roll down the runway conservative.

Jeff flew good all weekend.....as did Matt.

If you look at the photo I shot, Jeff was giving it all the right inputs. Sometimes, you just can't save them!

OK My mistake. The info regarding the CA wing and wing tube is still good info though.

Hi Every one
The airplane I flew in the TAS 2006 free was a AirWild Extra 330L, this plane was a plane that I had laying around in the garage for a long while, I got that plane a long time ago when AirWild first came out with the Extra, before the airplane was released for general sale they came out with a new rib design to make the wings stronger. After the crash and thinking about it on the long ride home I realized that I had never gone back and put some supports in the wing to straighten it. Oops.
Bodywerks, That is your opinion of the airplane, and that’s ok, If every one like blue cars, every car in the world would be blue, and that would be boring. The airplane is a awesome flying freestyle airplane, I could have chosen to fly any airplane I wanted in freestyle, it can do freestyle maneuvers like no other airplane I have flown, that is why I CHOSE that airplane for freestyle. My brother has also flown that plane in many advanced and unlimited IMAC contest and done very well with it.

Glad he made it out ok, in the pic before it hit the ground, it really looked like he was trying to bail out... leaned over to one side hard! Jeff, did you try to fly it out on knife-edge ala Hemple style when he lost a wing or did it happen so fast it was in before you knew it? It looked like you had a little left aileron in to roll it level... but that could have been from the maneuver you were in when the wing let go... just thought it would be interesting to ask... I think I would have been asking "what the hell happened" after the plane hit the ground!

In pic #one it is obvious that the pilot has cracked his noggin on the canopy due to violent lateral G's and was knocked cold and couldn't save the plane !!

Hey John
When the wing first went my first reaction was to try and save it. But very shortly after that I noticed that the plane was coming very close and did not want to take the risk of it going into the pits, and decided to just throttle back and let it hit the ground. It happens so fast. It was coming down pretty steep when the wing came apart I am not sure if I would have been able to get the nose up before it hit the ground. It was a real bummer I am glad that every one got to see the one round of free with the plane.
