Another way is to look at totals.

Overall there were:
32 Futaba radios (51%)
28 JR (44%)
3 Multiplex (5%)

At this level of competition neither radio has an edge. Both perform as needed. Anyone here think QQ or Mark would fly worse with a Futaba. Is Jason flying better with the JR?? Did Chip win the TOC because of his Futaba??

Circus Hobbies and the TOC got me started with JR "back in the day". Admittedly, most of my airplanes are mutts with JR rx's driving Futaba, Hitec, and JR servos. One thing is for certain in my opinion, JR service cannot be beat.

Well, brand loyalty is what every company with a product is banking on. I started with JR because that is what the resident expert used and he was going to be my coach in r/c helis. Later I tried helping people program their radio and every time someone would come up to me with a 9Z I would pull out a chair for them, because it was going to be a long process. I didn't think Futaba's programming was the most intuitive out there, my luck with good reliable products from them was 50/50 at best and the customer service was horrendous from my personal experience. Each one of those things led me to be a loyal customer of JR and each of those negative points were positive attributes that I associated with JR and Horizon. Now, this is NOT a bash Futaba post! I think that they have significantly improved all aspects of their products and service. This is just my personal preference.

My point is this- in general people associate their feelings toward brands with their knowledge and experience of the product. In car audio we target a young group and inform them of our brand and let them experience it in demo cars at supercross events, car shows, on Overhaulin', etc. This sticks with them when it is time for them to go get their first or next car stereo. Now this doesn't always hold true. For example: I like women but that doesn't necessarily mean that I am knowledgeable about them! EDIT: I like my wife, singular tense. Not plural. Sorry

Yer I have a 9zap, its a nightmare to program. 3 letter codes names for everything with a large sized screen what were they thinking. 9Zap is a radio that let you do any thing even if silly like allocate 2 things to the one job, This is my main gripe with JR, their sets are always trying to protect you from getting confused, but they can hold you back. The MZ is got the same freedom as the 9zap but christ are the menus far more easy to follow now over zap, with full word descriptions and pictures for everything. Ive evolved heaps in my radio programming since owning an MZ due to its simplicity and the best thing is it will still let you do ridiculous stuff, that can evolve into amazing stuff..

I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU.
I SAW QUIQUE SOMENZINI WON HIS FIRST TOC IN LAS VEGAS BACK IN 94, AND YES, HE WAS FLYING WITH FUTABA, SO I THINK IS MOST OF THE CONVENIENCE FOR THE PILOT IN TERMS OF MONEY WHO THEY FLY FOR. I AGREE THAT FUTABA, JR, AIRTONICS, HITEC AND MULTIPLEX ARE ALL VERY GOOD RADIOS, IS JUST A MATTER OF PERSONAL TASTE.

....and my daddy can beat up your daddy....Blah,Blah....Not another of these threads! JR Tuscon Shootout? Why even bother with these posts?
Everyone has a reason for using what they use, and just as many classes have been won with Futaba as JR and so on......
Every radio has its positive and negative points, and I think there are plenty on both sides that would be quick to point them out.....
