I need some help guys. I built a Tiger 60 for my dad. I put my Saito 100 on it. The plane flys great but im only getting around 7-8 minutes of flying time out of a 12 oz tank around 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
Isnt this too short? Im using 15% fuel and a 15x6 prop turning around 8800 rpm. I read somewhere that these motors create a lot of muffler pressure and tend to push the fuel into the motor and not get used. This seems to make sense to me because the bottom of the plane is covered in fuel that comes out of the breather nipple. I dont think im running the motor too rich, its 2 turns out. What do you guys think? |

My saito 100 has the low end screwed in all the way to the stop.
The high end is screwed in to about 1/2 to 1 and 3/4 turns out. This spins a 16X4 at a max rpm of 9600. Your plane will have crap all over the bottom after two flights no matter what mixture you are set at. Mine always does but having it rich makes it a little worse. You rpm's sound kinda low but I have never used a 15X6. 8 minutes on a 12 ounce tank is probably the best you can do with that engine. |

Put a velocity stack (technically, it's an intake stack, but...) on it. I believe you can get one for the Saito at horizon hobby. Or you could just make one out of some brass/aluminum tubing, which is what I did.
It'll keep fuel from spitting out of the carb which dramatically increases fuel economy and decreases the mess. Worked for me, anyway. I get 20+ minutes from a 16oz tank with several ounces to spare. |

I have this engine in my Fliton Extra with a 16 oz tank. I am running 30% heli fuel with the engine rich. The timer on my radio is set for 14 minutes. Flying pattern with a few hard climbs and some hover practice thrown in, I land with 40-50% in the tank. (it is easy to check on this plane, just pick up the front hatch) Fuel consumption has a lot to do with flying style, just like driving a car. My combination has tons of power and I rarely use over 60% throttle. I am always managing my throttle. I use the power of the engine but only for short, hard runs. Then it is back to hummin.
