Default Kroma 50 ? Any Users,

Hey Guys i have the Kroma 100 on a Wildhard Giles with only a couple hour run time on motor and i am well satisfied but just courious i havent heard any comments about the single 50cc Kroma and usuage reports or feedback. Thinking of putting one on my Aviation Models 30% Yak in the future . Would appreciate any feed back pros or cons, power compared to say a Brison 3.2 , Da ect. Thanks

I Definately can say that the Kroma's are top engines...fly with DR and all the other guys that are running them and rarely see any problems. The Kroma 50 is a very economical and reliable engine. They are really stiff in the beggining, but after a bit it really loosens up and has alot of power. On another plus side, I believe that by weight they are lighter engines (I don't know exact weight, but easy to find). Here is the link:

Ok yes i bought mine direct from D/R and have talked to Todd and the guys quite a bit before i bought mine. I was just wanting some feedback on the 50 from someone who actually had one . I dont have time right now to post any photos of my 100 install as i dealing with a spouse who is having some major health problems. I will call Todd i guess and visit with him. The only downfall to the 100 i have is that the left cylinder has darkened a little due to the paint burning off and this is being improved with the newer ones as they are coming without any painted cylinders . I talked to Todd B about it and he said that is normal and that kind of turns guys off . I thought maybe the motor was a little lean because of this action but he said it was normal. The motor was a little tight as stated previously in previous post but with time it will break in nicely . I just havent had the time to run the motor as much as i want to. It starts easily and it has all kinds of torque and power with a 27/10 nx or menz prop. Thanks for the reply Ando how do you think the 50 would perform on the AM Yak 54 30% ??? I would probalbly run a MSC 22/8 prop on it i have had real good luck with these props and they pull like stump pullers.

They have put the Kroma 50 on the Aerotech Yaks and the 50 has pulled it great. May seem alittle weary at first, but guarenteed it will do great after some run time. DR said that what makes it so stiff is due to one more ring and bearing in the motors compared to other brands.

All of the Kromas seem to have unbelieveable stump pulling power, it's unbelieveable how many rpms these things can take. Doug was telling me there is an extra bearing on the shaft. I was very impressed with the transition for 3D also.

Not sure about the 100's, but Doug had a 180 on a DR 2.6M extra and was turning so many revs he had to replace the prop every few flights. it was turning over 9 with no problems. Also doing full speed blenders with the plane. Great testamony for the plane AND engine. You might want to contact Todd Blose or Randy David at www.drhobbies.com for more info.

I am totally amazed at how well the 2.6 is holding up...I bet doug that it would hold probably up to 30 flights and it has by far exceeded it!!! Hey Tim, you been down to our field in Mt. Pleasant, Texas???

That's one thing I didn't like about the DA 50, no bearing behind the rod on the crank and one piston ring. 3W has 3 bearings and 2 rings, little heavy, but stout. If the Kroma has all that stuff and is light, might be worth a try, might have to get one

Bruce,
Her is a video of the Kroma 50 in a Double Vision.
The plane weights 20lbs wet and 18.9 dry

Pretty Impressive Todd , the only other concern is the weight that i will need up front for cg purpose on my AM Yak 54 30% . I was wondering what the weight was of the 50 with ign and muffler for comparison purposes. The folks running the Da 50 for example are saying they have been having to put both receiver packs and ign packs up in the motor box for cg purposes . It bothers me on the idea of putting receiver packs near the ign and that close to the motor and ign ect reference interference noise and ect. Nice video
