First 50cc gasser

I'm ready to buy my first 50cc plane. It'll be my first gasser too.
I'm not into 3d (yet) more IMAC style / scale aerobatics.
Needs to be ARF, preferably fairly easy build and nice quality.
I like Sukhois but I've found nothing in this size, so I've been looking at Yaks and Extras.
Everyone understandably raves about QQ's Yaks, but I just couldn't live with the color scheme.
( Sorry QQ - not to my taste)

Any thoughts, oppinions or advice will be most appreciated.

My first gas plane was the H9 Extra 260. Easy to build and most importantly to me is there is numerous threads on FG and RCU about the plane. They answered every question i had and alerted me to problems that would come up. More times than not, i had the problem fixed before i even had one. I wish i had gone to gas a long time ago. I really enjoy the gas motors and planes vs glow.

You are going to get many different opinions on this subject.

I learned a lot from my H9 Extra 260, which i will go ahead and recommend to you. WH planes are good ones alos with much information available.

Im going to be buying an AM Yak this week. That is another good plane.

If you want a awsome imac plane, and a plane you could finish up and maiden in less than a week, definitly go with the 30% Aero-Works Extra 260 w/ a DA 50, Fromeco regs and batts. Here is the link to the site.... www.Aero-Works.net

The H9 260 was the first model I looked at, but having read a number of threads, alot of people recomend fitting a glow, saying that a 45/50cc gas makes the plane a bit heavy.

Checked out the Aero-Works 260, looks the muts nuts. It's quick build and has excellent reviews.
However, I can't seem to find a dealer here in the UK.
I've e-mailed Aero-Works, but not had a reply back yet.
It goes to the top of the list for now, providing I can get one.

That H9 260 is too small to be a full blown 50cc plane. Hangar 9 probably built that plane to sell more of their new Saito 220 four strokes but I bet that plane would of sold like crazy if they gave it an 87'' span and made it a truely 50cc size bird.

You are better off with a bigger plane for your first gas.

The Extra that Tony was talking about is a Aero-Works, but AeroTech also makes a 50cc Yak which I have and it is really good but it is a bit on the heavy side but it still flies great with a DA-50.

I dont know of a direct link to their website. Ive only seen them on Chiefaircraft.com and Troybuiltmodels.com.

I just built my first 50cc gas plane. I will likely make the move to an Aero Works in the future but I really liked the looks of the new Great Planes Cap 232 and I had never owned a Cap. So I figured what the heck. I read a lot of posts that said the plane was too small and would be too heavy with a gasser up front. I checked out the airframe at the LHS and was impressed with the quality and how light the structure was. My finished plane with metal gear servos and MLP horns and ball links is 13 lbs 9 oz. Do the math on the loading and I think you will know how it flies Yes, it has some heavy pitch coupling on the rudder. Yes, you have to manage the throttle. Yes, it flies like a 79" foamy that also does nice pattern work.

Do I recommend it as the top choice? No. All I am saying is don't be skeered of the "tweener" planes like this. If you can keep them light and not mount a brick on the nose, they can be lots of fun.

Ok, can't get Aeroworks products in the UK, I'd have to ship from the US which makes them too expensive. Shame.

So, I've decided to either go for a WH Extra 300, or wait for EF's Extra to come out.

Thing is, is it worth the wait, considering this will be my first 50cc model.

I have been flying mine for a few weeks now, so far i think its the best flying 50cc plane... and it was so easy to assemble!, it comes with pre-drilled surfaces for contrl horns, pre-hinged, all blind nuts pre-installed, and very high quality german hardware

PA also offers a combo with engine which is a really good price to get started on a gas plane!

This planes are very popular in Europe, so i think you can probably find a dealer close to you and shipping will be a lot less than buying from USA
