Is it possible to run a smoke pump off the ignition packusing a "Y' harness ?..It would be a 3W Pump and the igniton is a 6v NIMH.. This is for a DA50 with stock exhaust.

Yes, that is possilble.
I would never do that, as the smoke pump will drain your ignition pack fast. Also there may be a voltage issue at full throttle. The engine will pull quite a few amps as well as the smoke pump.

Good point..didnt think of that..My other option was to get the Sullivan pump and run it off a 11.1v 3c Lipoly..

Ignition might not be the best battery to power the smoke pump, but you can definitely run it off of the RX packs if it is anything like my Don Harris pump. (it's made to be run off the RX) I have run it in two airplanes so far, I don't notice any excessive draw at all; works great, no additional batteries to charge, a little less weight, just makes it a little simpler for my installations.

I would rather go with the 3W but Im only running 2 1400 NIMH packs for my RX..I am using about 275mah per 13 min flight..Just a bit worried about the extra draw from the pump..

I have had great luck with TME and Sullivan Smoke Pumps. I would recommend using a fuse on you power line for your pump if you are going to tie in your pump to any other electrical system on your plane. Just a thought, but if that motor seizes up, it will just blow fuse as opposed to taking down your plane with a short. My .02

I would not do that, because when you're connecting the ground (negative pole) from ignition battery and pump control to the receiver (smoke rate control) you are grounding ignition and receiver circuits (- pole), which is a very good way to get wonderful interferences, unless you opto-isolated part of the circuit. I prefer to keep both circuits well isolated....and lipos for saving weight. It's quite similar to high current (>100A) electric planes, to avoid interferences you isolate power & receiver circuits. My 2 cents, bye
