An excellent resource for learning and understanding aresti can be found here: http://www.scaleaerobatics.org/PDFDOCS/ams.pdf .

At one contest I forgot to do this and he was reading from a written copy, I didn't want to get distracted by telling him to stop so I let him continue. It was the Basic class and I knew the next manouver was a Sharks Tooth. The description had the correct manouver title but it was describing a Reverse Sharks Tooth.

He said "pull to 45" and I said "you mean vertical" and he said "no 45" and I was getting a little far away at this point so I just followed his instructions and of course received a "0".

So now I insist on manouver name only and I provide the call sheet so if there are any mistakes I can only blame myself.

I can read Aresti by the way and have helped some of the guys in Sportsman decipher their unknowns. I figure it is good practice for when I move up.

Memorize the Unknown and use the caller to just re-enforce what you think your supposed to do next.

Wayne,

Sure it is easy for you smart guys to memorize the sequence, but like some of the guys that I call for (my husband comes to mind), they may memorize the sequence but when they stand in front of the judge memory fails!! Then there is Boyko who is just an absolute mess. Then there is Hubb on Sunday morning trying to fly unkowns so badly hungover that he can barely walk. These are pilots that really rely on their caller. To be quick on your feet when dealing with the above it is imperative to read Aresti!! To anyone reading this thread who is even thinking about flying or following IMAC--I highly recommend learning to read Aresti!!

Marian

Marian,

You are giving some real sound advice. If I try to follow a written out call sheet, I can't follow the sequence as it is flown, and I can't look out for traffic (even more important). With the aresti, I have more time.

Marian,

Thats why I dont drink during IMAC season.
Normally I am a raging alcoholic but I stop during the flying season so I can memorize Unknowns.

Marian calls so much for so many people she has the sequences memorized better than the pilots.

Dan,

Thanks for the kind words! I usually know the Unlimited sequence so well by the end of the year that I see it in my sleep! Give Glenda my best!

Wayne,

I've seen you drink before--you are too much of a cheap drunk to be a "raging alcoholic" in the off season.
