Default EP/GP Reactor by Great Planes

The big brother to the Reactor 3D looks like it will be a fine addition to the hanger-when they come out! Looks like the delivery date has been pushed back to late Nov. Called Tower and found out it has a battery hatch and airfoiled tail feathers. Still don't like the looks of the landing gear, but that can be changed. 5s looks like the pack to experiment with. TP eXtremes should be able to deliver the electrons. Either the stock 42-63-480 outrunner(not in stock or any pertinent data available) or a Hacker A50-16L should do the trick. Was going to put Funtana X50 gear into this one(6s) but looks like this bird demands "light". Any other power plant suggestions? Hyperion 4025's would probably work too. Maybe Axi 4130-16. Christmas looks good this year! I'm definitly eyeing the H9 Showtime 4D 50 too.

Pro Lites are considerably lighter than eXtremes. You should really have no need for that kind of current draw. Those things were designed with 3D Helis, pylon racers stuff like that. Pro Lites are better suited to 3D Airplanes.

Prolites are great but the Amp draw on a 5s setup would probably be too much. 6s yes, 5s too much amp draw. I'm going to try both prolites and extremes on this plane. This plane has enough wing area to support a couple more ounces easy. I've put a 2100 in my small Reactor and it doesn't fly as well as the 1200's but it still will 3D fine. Tower calls for a 6s setup and I probably would go with the same setup as in my Funtana X50(6s2p prolites), but I think a 5s setup would be lighter, just won't have enough output to keep up,so going to try with eXtremes for 5s. By the way I've been able to keep one of my larger planes down to a 8s(extremes) setup instead of 9s-10s(prolites). I would have had to go up to a 3pack to keep up with the amperage draw. With the eXtremes I save going up in cell and pack count. Extremes may be too heavy for some smaller 3D planes but for the larger ones it makes sense to cut out an extra cell and pack and still get a greater output. I'm going to try both prolites and eXtremes but I have the feeling that the prolites will be much hotter. Hotter=shorter battery life. My 2 cents.

I started thinking about that after I posted. One of those situations where "think, then speak" should have been better applied. Your point is well understood.

Hey no sweat. We're all groping along trying to make sense of the newer electric stuff and typing a response over the computer doesn't convey any type of expression so chaulk it up to the learning curve. !

That's the bad part. I've been flying soley electric for the past two years or so and I have pretty good understanding of it. Nothing as large as this Reactor though.

Same here. The Funtana X50 has been my largest electric to date and I still have tons of questions for the experts! Doing an 8s plane now and the learning curve is slowly advancing upwards. I love electrics and plan on some larger ones soon too. It's all good fun and learning in my book and anyone who posts their experiences helps out all of us and I thank everyone who shares info.

That does look tempting, as I have been taking a keen interest in artistic aerobatic-type planes and flying. Problem is that I just picked up an Inspire 60...My setup will be:
Eflite 60BL
CC80 esc
6S1P maxamps 4000 lipos (cheap at $200 for the 6S configuration and about 18 ounces AUW)
Apc 17X8E
The Inspire has a 60.6" span, 713 square inches of wing, and an electric flying weight of 6-6.3 pounds. If it flies anything like my mini Inspire, I'm in love!

Here's some quick shots. Here's how much the parts weigh without hardware:

Grams

Fuse: 412
Cowling: 43
Canopy: 63
Rudder: 28
Elevator ass.: 69
Wheel Pants: 38
Wings w/ailerons: 448
Wheels:15
Spinner: 32
LG: 116
Wing Tube: 71

Total: 1335 grams = 47.67 oz.
Great job Tower! Looks like it will be a pretty lite bird. Specs claim 16oz or so wing loading. Going with the recommended 42-60-480, CC80,6s2p 4200. Well constructed ,maybe a little CA in spots just to make sure. Should have it done by the end of the weekend.

Very nice looking ARF. Thanks for posting these pics. I've been looking at getting this bird and your info is very helpful.
Thanks Jason

Room for an 18" prop if you wish. 10-1/2" to center of motor mount.

Got some more done on the Reactor during the holiday melee. Motor mounting is a snap with the medium motor mount from Tower. Tie wrapped CC80 down with plenty of cooling. More pics tommorrow....

Here's Towers' video of the Reactor. Looks like most of the flight footage is the e-version.
