I got all the servos mounted using Secraft servo horns, titanium turnbuckles and Dubro ball links. The dual carbon control horns are cut from a sheet I made some time back, and it is really hard on saw blades!

On the rudder I used the Secraft wire tensioners, 100lb steel fishing trace and it went togethor quite easily.

I also got the retaining screws into the stabiliser tubes making me almost ready for a balance check!!!

I cut the holes in the undercowl as an exit for the cooling air. It works out to be a little over three times the intake area, and I can cut more out later if there are airflow issues.

I screwed aluminium louvres over the holes to make it look a little better.

I got everything put togethor including 2 x 2 cell LiPo, 4000mah receiver packs and time for a balance check. Woah boy that's tail heavy! I kept adding weight to determine how much was needed and it worked out to be about 700g! Did not want to do that. After much thought a friend suggested moving the engine forward. So I measured the gap from the forward cylinder to the inside of the cowling at 18mm then 45 minutes later with a lathe I had 4 x 15mm aluminium stand offs and balance is perfect.

Now that my Sukhoi is complete I'll be focusing on Kelvins model. Yesterday I got all the vac formed louvres glued on ready to be faired into the fuselage sides. I also skinned the rudder in the vacuum bag and molded the fibreglass canopy frames all ready for a bunch of sanding today...

While waiting for some filler to dry around the louvres etc, I decided to start covering some of the flying surfaces on Kelvins model. Pretty happy with how the stabs and elevators turned out.

I finished covering the flying surfaces on Kelvins Sukhoi, it's based on a full size Su-29 in Auckland.

Now back to sanding the fuselage and finishing up the rudder.

I've been working too much lately so decided to try and offset that with some build time! Did quite a bit of sanding on Kelvins fuselage, boring to look at and not mentally stimulating but a great way to clear the head.

I also fibreglassed the rudder using Hobbyking 18gsm cloth, less than 5g worth of cloth for both sides of the rudder. Then i sanded up, trimmed and glued on the canopy frames that I had made some time ago.

Well it's been a while since I put anything here, but you know life, babies etc can slow down the building!

I've been painting Kelvins model. I thought this would be the easier paint job of the two, but it also turned to be surprisingly... challenging.... Again I used paper templates to get the lettering and stars the right shape same size.

After my wife saw this all marked up ready for blue paint I got the job of wrapping Christmas presents. Indefinitely.

She's all painted now, but since Kelvin hasn't seen it yet this is all I'll post. I'm pretty happy with it.

Currently working on the carbon fiber control horns. Like on my model they are cut from a sheet I made a while back. I had forgotten how hard CF is on saw blades, 4 horns and the blade is completely ruined.

Happy new year everyone!

Well done Graham. Both looking awesome. I've been flying mine lately, still going strong at 350 flights.
