Wayne just curious,
Why did you decide to stay with the MTW TD110 instead of the manford greeves pipes. After Tuscon this yesr i pretty much made up my mind to use the greeves on my new and old 330.

Hey Tony,

I dont see the need for a tuned exhaust on a 37-38 pound plane.
Throttle transition is also a factor. I think suffers with Tuned exhaust.
Larry's 330 mid range transition sucks with 1090's.
I hear the Greeve's are better though in that respect.

The other thing, they extend so far back that the whole inside of the plane needs to be modified to make them work.
Pretty simple to just have the MTW's fit completely in the motor box.

I have to agree with Wayne. I've seen his new 260 fly and it has more than enough power with the MTWs.
Also my sponsor ( the wife ) refuses to pay for them. Too much money and she says it won't make me fly better anyway..............I had to agree.

There will be a Carden 300 to leave here with the Greeve's installed after this one is completed. Bill at DA has done some looking for me and these pipes actually extend 21 inches past the rear of the motorbox. They will exit the fuse bottom at the point of where the canopy and rear turtle deck meet. This will take a lot modification to properly install, should get interesting...Walt

Tony, I'll throw in my $0.02 here as well. After watching the planes with Greeves this year, I made the same decision as Wayne. The MTW's are SO easy to install, and they add minimal weight compared to the Greeves. With the Greeves pipes, the weight isn't just in the pipes (which are very light) but in the modification to the kit to make them work. I'm sure they can be made to work, but weight, throttle transition, and simplicity won for me. Stupid power is readily available with the MTWs on a light Carden airframe - even in Tucson.

Walt - I'm enjoying this. Keep it up!

Isnt it funny how a lot of us are building our planes around one particular contest?

We could all easily be happy with 40 pound planes flying here in the midwest but that one contest has changed everything.

Wayne,

Those of us who fly in the Southwest have that problem multiple times. New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Las Vegas all give us the same weight penalty. I really have to fly different in Las Vegas and Arizona, then I do when I fly in California.

That is funny, but what a great contest. Plus, it is the barometer for performance - if it flies well there, it will definitely fly well here!

Andy,

I totally understand.
I was mostly talking about guys here in the midwest who dont have to deal with high altitude and wide temp ranges from one local contest to the next.

Wayne, Ken,

Well i think i will take the plunge and try the greeves. I love stupid power i can always use a few clicks less throtle and talking to andrew he felt that the greeves were alot better than the 1090. I guess what i would really like is to fly the same prop no matter where i am. I am lightening the hell out of my new 330 and we''ll see where it comes in at. I still haven't weighed mine ( I think I'm afraid to) but i know that on uplines even here in fl i need full power.
