Watch the video of the new FG foamy on the home page. You can buy a DC converter and use any charger you want. Personally I use one of those power pack/car booster things that you can plug into the wall and charge bats of at the same time with any 12V charger. From my limited knowledge the new thunder power charger with a balancer would seem like a good choice

There's a lot of planes out there that would fit your need. You have to decide what type of plane you want, foamy, built up balsa, removable wing etc. Just to name a few, like hillmanr2 said, the new FG foamy is a definate winner. I saw it fly out at the TAS and it was impressive to say the least. The Airfoilz planes are great if you're looking for an airfoiled wing in a foam plane http://www.3dxhobbies.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=172&category_id =31 - 77k -. In a full fuse balsa plane the Fliton Prodigy or Extra 330 mini are excellent choices http://www.fliton.com
As far as chargers go, like the planes, there are many good ones out there. I have a Thunder Power 1010C charger with a TP210V in line balancer that is excellent for charging my higher voltage lipo batteries (6-10s). I also have Schulze, Triton and Electrifly chargers that have performed flawlessly. Of these chargers, the Electrifly PolyChage 4 gets the most workout because it can charge 4 battery packs at the same time at up to 3 amps (3000 mAh) each. It doesn't have a digital information readout like the TP, Schulze or Triton but being able to charge 4 packs simultaneously is a big plus for me, and it's a good buy for $99 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKAU0. These are just a few examples of the many choices out there. Hopefully others will chime in with their suggestions dick |

The airfoilz planes all the way
for imac and 3d go with the mobius. If you are more into 3d and want to pattern only sometimes go with the yak !!

For smaller packs, I'm kind of partial to the Hobbico AccuCycle Elite. Like many chargers it will charge Li-Ion, LiPo, NiCd, and NiMH packs but unlike most, it will charge 2 dissimilar packs at once. For example, you can have a LiPo flight battery on one output and a NiMH TX pack on the other and charge them both at the same time.
The LiPo functions work perfectly but I particularly like this charger for it's NiMH and NiCd peak detect and top off algorythm. I build and fly slope planes and many have 4-cell 700-1100mAh receiver packs imbedded in EPP wings and fuselages covered with Ultracote and Solartex. It would take an X-Acto knife to get to them so I don't want those packs getting hot when I charge them. I tried several peak-detect chargers including the Triton but they all got the packs hotter than I deemed acceptable. But not the AccuCycle Elite! I can charge those receiver packs at higher rates yet maintain lower temperatures than I've been able to with any other charger I've tried. The same holds true for charging my NiMH TX packs in-transmitter. I didn't hesitate to charge the 2500mAh 8-cell pack in my Eclipse-7 at 1C (2.5A) with the AccuCycle but charging the same pack at 1A with my Triton would get the battery compartment cover hot enough to warp it. Now I fly a Royal Evo and charge it at 1C (1.5A) with the same result. 'Bout the only downside is it won't do the big packs. But it's the cat's meow for indoor and parkflier-class packs and can't be beat for Nickel chemistry TX and RX packs. Did I mention that it comes with an AC power supply and big alligator clamps for the power input leads? Pete |
