Default Smoke system in a 50cc Yak

I have read people's opinions for and against using a smoke system in a 50 cc sized plane, but I would like to give it a shot.

The particular plane will be a QQ Yak 85. The only thing that looks like it will be a tight fit are the wing pegs that attach to the fuselage. Currently it has a 650 gas tank which comes out to 21 ounces I think, and I was thinking of putting in a 16 ounce smoke tank.

From what I have gathered, this plane has a little leeway in terms of weight using a DA 50 because QQ originally designed it with a 50CC 3W in mind.

Aeroworks actually sells their 50 cc ARF Yaks with an additional tank for smoke. Do you know where I can obtain a fuel tank featured like the ones in this pic? If there aren't any suggestions, I'll just call Aeroworks I guess.

Has anyone out there used a smoke system in their 50 cc sized Yak or any other plane that size and how well did it work out?

Lastly, how much of a mess is it to clean off of the plane? Is it worse than slimy-assed glo fuel? I know this discouraged some from bothering with it at all. It's my first gasser so I'd like to give it a shot.

I did it on my old 50cc edge. Worked fine, used a 16oz tank, and a sullivan pump. Produced great smoke. Only thing was you had to turn the pump down so it was barely turning over or else you would be puking raw unburnt oil everywhere. The more you can burn the less you have to clean up. It wasn't too bad. I plan on running smoke on my next project for sure. If you tight for space you could probably get away with a smaller gas tank. I was running a 24oz tank for gas, and will go down to a 16oz this year, less weight, and I don't fly for 20min at a time anyways.

Im in the process of putting one in 50cc EF Yak..Im using 2 16oz tanks for fuel and smoke, a 7.4 pump battery and a Sullivan pump. I have a DA 50 and am putting in a Bisson smoke injector fitting..Ive talked to a few people and they all said the Bisson fitting makes better smoke and makes your fluid last a lot longer.

Hey Brad,
Check out Sullivanproducts.com, they sell different shaped tanks. I was looking at a 16oz. tank they sell for boats, it's just over 3" wide and you may be able to mount it on top of the fuel tank. You also may be able to put that stock tank on it's side, you'll just have to change the plumbing inside, and put a regular 16oz. tank on top of it. I think it may fit under the canopy but I'm not 100% sure.
