Default Carden 260 Built by Tom Mikalauskas

Guys, here are a few pics of my 40% Carden 260 framed up by Tom Mikalauskas. For those of you that do not know Tom, he is a fantastic custom builder in Dayton Ohio. Every joint is perfect and he did many lighteneing mods inspired by Ivan K. Tom sent me a pictorial build log almost daily and called me regularly for input on how I wanted things done. I felt like I was there building it along with him. I picked it up two weeks ago, but life has been a little hectic lately and I am just getting around to playing with it. There is virtually no filler at all on this plane. another nice mod is the seamless turtledeck/fin filler. I will post more pics once I get rolling with finishing and set up.
Any of you who have seen Snapasaurus' Pitts, Tony Bonano's Edge or John Bradley's Yak can attest to the quality of Tom's work (I know there are many others out there, these are just the few I have seen. I believe Tom has built close to 40 Cardens). Thanks again Tom. It was a pleasure working with you. Can't wait to do another! Craig K

Wow Craig, that's a beautiful plane. That's not the 260 that my mufflers are going on is it? They are not worthy of that plane .

Very nice,

Mike Darr

Thanks Mike! The mufflers may go on this or a friend's 3W Extra. He does not want to cut holes in the bottom of his cowl, but it will be close. Craig

No question that Tom is a great builder, my Pitts speaks for that, now I am drooling, anytime I see a nice plane my knees buckle, it is no different this time.
Looking good Craig, keep us updated, see you Wednesday at the races.

Craig,

Looks awesome! You gonna go hot and heavy to finish it up or do it slowly over the winter?
What scheme?

Elie, got a bunch of guys racing this Wednesday. Should be fun. Bryan has been going down and taking private lessons at the track from Andre:homo: ....he better be able to kick our a$$ or he will never hear the end of it. He says Andre told him to bump our rear ends to get us loose. Oh well, he can't choose his sexuality!

Wayne, thanks. Your build thread put me over the edge to buy another Carden. I have a couple of ideas of schemes in my head, but have not come up with anything final. Winter is closing in fast here, so I will take my time and finish it up this winter.

Craig,

The plane looks great. I agree Tom does a fantastic job. As you mention my Edge is great and he is doing another plane for me over the winter. Glad you think so highly of TOm's work.

Thanks Tony. Glad you let me know about him. Definitely a craftsman! You have to come up some Wednesday evening for a little go cart racing and dinner this winter.

Craig.. glad to see another great job by Tom, He did an awesome job on my Yak and I'm going after my 330 in a week or two. Anybody looking for a great builder to work with give Tom a call. He did the same for me on both of mine, lots of pics almost everyday. Makes it great to feel good about your builder when you live 600 miles away.

Thanks Tom

Well Craig, if he doesnt' want to cut holes in the front of the cowl those are the mufflers he wants, since they have the angle in the front of the cannister portion.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Craig,

Let me know when you go racing. I would join you for the race and dinner. Maybe when the weather warms up we could fly, race and then eat.
