Judging School JAX Day Two

Even though the Gateway RC rule is no flying before 10 am, an exception was made this morning bright and early, engines roaring at 8 am. Onto the flight line to actually get some hands on, or eyes on rather, experience. Judging participants lined up their chairs and prepared to tabulate. Two demonstrator pilots, Kevin Wilson and David Moser, executed by the book maneuvers while throwing in some curve balls every now and then to keep judges on their toes. Maneuvers and figures were flown independently of one another with pauses for discussion in between. Then all the judges sat down and judged 2 full sequences (4 flights). For some, it was their first time in the hot seat. In between sequences there was an in depth discussion on criteria, including how scores can differ so much from one judge to the next and "corrective maneuvers". There is much to be discussed and plenty on the Education Committee's plate. A huge thank you to Gateway RC, Jerry Hailey, Wayne Matthews, Kent Porter, and Phyllis Youngblood!! Judging School was a success! I look forward to many more!

It was a great time meeting more of the pilots and judges from all over the country. Any judging school is a great refresher and we went through what's new for the 2015 - 2016 rules cycle. I'm glad I had the opportunity to attend.

Big "Thanks" to Tony Fandino for the ride to the field and back to the airport!!

Maybe I can get a tutor, otherwise everybody gets 10's.

Looks like a great turn out. Hopefully you all can bring it back and help the rest of us!!

Step One: Rest

Step Two: Relax
... calming mist for you and your space that, when sprayed into the air around you, helps to create a space of peace, calm, and relaxation.

How could you not dominate in the Unknown round with that secret weapon. The other pilots and judges won't even know what happened!!
