Ok, now that Wayne's is done time for the next one. This is a Merlin from NES. The wings are going to have checkers on them. This is how it is done.
Tip: Try to keep the checkers big enough for a paint jar to sit on or any other weight. 1. Draw the outline of the wing on a scrap piece of depron. 2. Draw the checkers and label each one. 3. Cut- out the checkers. 4. Place the checkers on the wing and weigh down the white ones. 5. Put the piece left from the wing for a straight line on the outside of the checkers. 6. Remove the checkers that are to be painted. 7. Paint the checkers. I don't know how much I will get done today. We have an all nighter at the dome tonight. |

Seeing the depron mask trick in practice for checkerboard makes me want to try it. Can't wait to see the results.
I tend to airbrush smaller foamies, so I was thinking through things that would weight down a smaller depron mask. The best I've come up with so far is fishing sinkers. Plastic worm weights have a small flat circular base on them at their back, so they should work well to hold down smaller pieces..... |

Here are the checkers. The rest of the wing will be yellow with a red stripe.
You can go heavy, but don't have the paint too thin. Practice on scrap pieces. I did get one little run, but it's because it wasn't weighted good enough. Last edited by ckoerner; 12-02-2006 at 01:54 PM. |
