Default Krill Katana or Something

Hello!

I am seriously looking at a 33% Krill Katana for IMAC. I ordered a 2.6m Comp ARF Extra 300XS but the delay is going to be until mid January. This sets me way back for 07. I have a new BME 115 patiently awaiting an airframe. Can anyone shed some info about the Krill's Performance?

I have also been eyeballing the Dalton 260 but the build time is not in my favor!

Thanks,

Perry

Perry, I just finished building one. unfortunatly i won't get the oppertunity to fly it. The quality was fantastic and it really was an easy build. I even did mods to mount the aileron and elevator servos externally. the AUW was close to 28# with a 3W 106 on mufflers. it did have a powerbox and dual Fromeco 4800 peerless so with your engine and a different power system you would save close to 2# right there. The only thing that would keep me from wanting one of these for myself is the wing airfoil. it is very thin, like less than 2" thin but there is a ton of wing area there.

Thanks for the reply! The only thing is that every aircraft I want to order has a long delay on delivery. Man I am ready to get started! The only other plane that I would consider is a all white Comp ARF EXTRA 260. This plane is in stock in the US. This means giving up my BME and a few other 2.6m accessories in order to take the 40% plunge again. I know once I got the 35% done I would wish I spent the extra bucks for the 40%.

I received a e-mail from another member stating that Krill has a few real bad tendancies.

I will call my Comp ARF rep and cancel the 2.6m Extra 300sx due to a untimely delay and get the 260.

Was wondering if you did a build thread on your Krill Velox? I just received mine and waiting for some accessories to arrive before starting the build.

I have just maiden mine last week (Krill 33% Katana) and all I can say this plane is awesome. Still have a lot of trimming to do but it flies really well. If you need any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hey Japan3D, I didn't do a build up thread on my velox, but I think I remembering talking to you before about engines. The hardest part of the build I though was making the Rudder Tray and building up something to hold the Fuel and Smoke tanks...It wasn't hard to do, just took the most thinking part of the build up. Other than that, I love my Krill, but to bad I cant fly it now since the Motor is down for quite a while.

Perry, I think you will like the 260. I really like mine. It is an easier build to boot. Comp ARF does the canopy, wing and stab mounting whereas Krill does not. I also have alot of items I developed for the 260 that make it even better. Cowl baffling, radio/fuel tank tray, gear cuffs, main gear and of course tail gear.

Regarding the Krill!
From an e-mail: "There are a lot of unstable tendencies with the plane. thin wing, tends to stall in accelerated maneuvers, pitches hard in KE to name a few".

I really like the looks of the Krill but when I receive info as stated, I begin to backup a little. I have had Comp ARFS and the good thing about the 260 from all opinions is very positive!

Of course it lies within the ability of the pilot and maybe KRILL is a good IMAC platform.

I wouldn't take one person's opinion on this plane. He might not be a good pilot.

Gotta set it up right...mine flies straight as an arrow on its side as it does inverted and upright. I have also yet to get it to stall...just nice harriers. One of the most akward things about this airplane is, it take a little bit more to slow it down than it does the Comp arfs because of its profiles. I have not seen the 260's in action yet, but wanting to.

I've had my Krill Katana (I have no experience with the Velox) 39% now for over a year. Ido, Gernott Bruckman, Alberto Carrallo...they all do a great job with the plane....it is a ball to wring out and I agree it is an awesome freestyle plane, but not so sure I would use it for the precision required in graceful IMAC sequence flying. Granted I have my CG 3/4" behind the recommended at this time, but had it dead on for the 1st 6 months.. The DR extra that Chip Hyde is now flying, or a new 260 would be my pick. just my .02.
