Am I doin the math right ? Just under 6lbs b4 engine and electronics ? That would put it in the 12-13lb wheelhouse. Is it set up for duel aileron servo's ? Is there an option for a single ?

Yes those weights are pretty low. I'm just afraid weight was saved in critical areas such as the LG arrangement, and fuselage sides. I will be doing a lot of strengthening so that weight is not final. I'd be happy in the 15 or 16lb range, similar to the airwild. Last edited by Edge 540; 12-06-2006 at 08:56 PM. |

Composite ARF Yaks are extremely well engineered and do not go together like that. The carbon llegs of the gear go into tubes. It is not just a hold drilled at a angle and a glop of epoxy to hold it in. A Comp ARF has nothing in common with this thing.

atique,
Have you flown your YAK yet? The reason I ask is that I have one that is almost done and have been unable to find any flight reports on it yet. One thing I have found is that the measurments as listed in your postings do not match the actual measurements at all. I have the "Genuity" version and it is a 30%. By actual measurement 87" wingspan, 74.5" from front of cowl to back of rudder, and estimated wing area of 1488sq inches. My all up weight should be 16 to 161/2 pounds. I have put a DA-50 in it. In general the kit quality is in line with many of the other ARFs I have seen or put together. But slightly below the premium brands. At only $250 delivered it seems like a good price assuming it flys well. -STEVE- |

Where did you guys find this Yak ? I went to the league website, but my Chinese is not very good. Is there a dealer in the states ? If it's 87", it sounds like another EF clone. I have no problem with that. I've got a BME 50 just collecting dust, this may be a good home...

RockyV,
I don't think this is a clone of the EF YAK. They were really special. The structure design of this one is very different than how Chris designs. The EF YAK was a little more stretched compared to this one. I got mine from Steve Neu of Neu Motor fame. He brought back 5 of them from his last trip to China. Currently 3 of them are being built as electric powerd using Steve's excellent technology. I have a 74" Hyperion YAK (which is an exact EF clone) that is electric so I chose DA-50 gas for my build. It will be an interesting and direct comparison of electric and gas power. Here is a link to the YAK on League Models website. http://www.rcleague.com.cn/Article_S...p?ArticleID=58 and the manual http://www.rcleague.com.cn/UploadFil...e%20Manual.pdf You will notice that size, weight, wing loading are different on every document about the plane. I found the manual to be closest so far but still not right. I will say that League does seem to support their products. The one I got came without the Carbon Fiber landing gear. I e-mailed them about it, got a fast reply in English and they sent me two sets of carbon gear right away. If thier is enough interest maybe we should start a new thread on the YAK and compare the electric and gas versions as well as general info. -STEVE- |

As far as I can tell they are build by separate companies so a new thread for the Yak would help lessen the confusion. Thanks. |

Edge 540 have you flown this Extra yet? Do you have an update on the weight? I agree this looks like a nice plane for the money.
Cheers! Brett |
