Hey Rusty I have been getting a bit of practice lately. By the time your back I will have done the Gold Coast event, and I am sure I will probably have done a bit of judging of the basic guys by then. If you want to come up to my field and have a fly that should be fine, I could give you an idea of how I would score you and where you could improve. Of course all judges see things a little differently.
Our field is great for practice, generally in the mornings we have a westerly so you can go left to right and then often in the arvos we get an easterly so you can practice the sequence in the other direction as well. Also I could have a go of trying to fly ur sequence for you. (Not saying it will be perfect!!!!!) but to give u an idea of positioning. It would also be good to have you calling for me, and if your any good I will get you to call for me in Albury. |

Sure mate that sounds good. I'm not sure exactly how to call the sequence, but I'm sure it's not that hard and I'll give it a go. You'll just have to show me how to do it..

I've been doing heaps of reading about IMAC and I came across an article about being a good caller. It mention that there are different ways of calling. For example, one type just calls the manuevers, another calls the manuevers in steps. What is the best way to call?? I think would prefer a caller that just calls the maneuvers, however I haven't had anyone call for me..

It was on the IMAC website www.mini-iac.com in the articles section under flight school. There's some really good stuff there.

I hope it's not co-CD at your first comp...
That would be alot of pressure...!!!! It's tough enough just to run your first event... Let alone fly and run the comp...

the best way to learn is to go to comps and fly. that worked for me last year.
it helped having a great bunch of guys to call on when you need help. also if your just starting out, try to get a caller that is flying in a higher class. |

Great thoughts. The caller is flying the airplane, the pilot is wiggling the sticks. For those who haven't tried IMAC, it's humbleing and rewarding at the same time. Don't be shy and start out in a lower class.IMAC is all about building tools at each level. Don't short change yourself! If you just sign up and go to your first contest you will be met with open arms. Finding a caller is usually pretty easy! Just remember to check the ego at the gate. It can bruise but remember the judges are there to point out what you can do better. I've seen guys get too wrapped up in the competition side. Walk away from the flightline and whine about this judge or that. Don't worry about it! IMAC is a journey not a destination. Enjoy the ride! I encourage all huckers to give it a shot. Even if it's not your cup of tea, flying precisely will make your huckin look that much better! Rusty you got a winner here! Thanks for adding so much. Biffy

No worries biff..!!! I am glad to see so many people helping us juniors out. At least I and probably many others will have a better idea of what goes on at a comp than someone who just walks in of the street.

This is what I found works for me........
Get on the sim......learn a few moves. Get the flow and start memorizing which ones come next. Then get out and practice the same way. Fly a couple moves........then add a couple more then finally the whole routine. Next.......do it on a windy day! As I found out this past weekend in my pattern contest.....I suck in the wind.

I was just going through the basic sequence with my stick plane, and I have a question. On the figure 9 does the exit need to intersect the verticle line at the midway point?? That is how it is drawn in the aresti, but I'm unsure if you would be downgraded for not intersecting the verticle line in the middle??
Also, This is more for the aussie guys. I have been told that we fly two sequences back to back. Now once you finish one do you just do a turn around manuever and start the next sequence or do you get a second trimming pass??
