Jared,
Nice video, thanks for sharing. Even at 18lbs + it Looks like it hovers well on the DA-50R. How much throttle were you using? Do you have any video of general flying, takeoff and landing, rolls, loops, upline and downlines, that would show more about the wing loading?

Atique,
Have you flown yours yet? How about a flight report and some build info AUW ect.. I should have mine done in the next week and will report my experiences. I am currently building some custom CF gear and waiting for some CF wing tubes. I want to get this plane light before my first flight.

Dear Steve
hi
yes i flew it..only once.. basically a trimming flight
The plane flew very steady and predictable and triming it was no problem.
I kept the manoeuvring only till circuits and landings and some slow speed handling to find out any adverse aircraft handling characteristics and build up my own confidence level in the aircraft. It did not exhibit any adverse handling characteristics.
regards
ateeq

atique,
Thanks for the report. What is the final weight on your plane? I would be very interested in more reports. Particularly vertical power and down line speed.

Sorry i have not weighed it yet. But i will soon. I expect it to be bellow
18 lbs because JClark's was 18.8 lbs with fiber glass LG and probably aluminum wing tube. I will lighten the plane by installing the stock DA muffler and maybe put a CF spinner or no spinner.

Regards
Atique

Rocky,
The stock aluminum main tube is 1" X 31.5" and weighs 5 5/8oz. The stab tube is 1/2" X 15 5/8", 1 5/8 oz. The stock main gear weighs 25oz (looked like Jared plane had these), the RCLeague carbon option weighs 14 3/4 oz (really not fully carbon).

The total weight of the stock pieces is 32 1/4 oz. My domestic CF set of landing gear and wing tubes weighs 11.5oz a savings of around 20 oz. If Jared's plane weighs 18.2 oz as he stated, just my savings on this should bring the weight on mine to 16lbs 14oz. With a few other optimizations I should be able to get down to 16 lbs 8 oz which will have a big impact on performance. I should know by next weekend when I maiden the plane.

By the way. The two guys who are building the electric powered versions of the plane have built a carbon fiber replacement for the whole motor box asssembly. This is a very large piece. With the same CF gear as mine and the CF motor box they are hoping to get under 16lbs including batteries. We'll know in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Steve,
Will you be using .042" wall thickness on the main tube ? I guess you could get away with .038, but it may not be worth taking the chance. Don't most 28-30% planes normaly come with 1.25 O.D. main tubes ?

Yes. My main wing tube is 0.042. Hopefully the 1" diameter will be strong enough. It is the same size as the aluminum on that came with he plane.

Ok, A bunch of guys are meeting at the field this morning, I haven't finished all my lightening yet but have decided to attemp a maiden this morning anyway. The current all up weight is about 17lbs 6 oz. Still heavy, but we'll see how it flies. I'll report back this evening.
