Last weekend I finished up all the little bits on the EZ Star UAV and headed for the field late Sunday. The wind had died down to nothing, which is not that common for spring in DFW.

I performed the maiden without the camera so I wouldn't risk a few hundred bucks extra on the plane

It flew just about perfectly, but it was slightly tail heavy due to the layout I had selected. Once I landed and installed the camera, TX, and battery however, it was perfect. Here's some pictures.

Very basic base station setup... it's going to change a lot before the Airsoft event this thing was made for

And a couple of in-flight pics

Flaps down for landing

So far it's a success. The event is coming up in two weeks, so we'll see how it goes! I think I'll modify one of the Wild Hawk kits I have for a backup airframe, just in case. Don't want to risk it all on one plane!

I took off again with my base station on, and got a couple of minutes of video. Here's the results... I didn't have a way to directly record from the receiver, so we had to film my monitor. We'll have better quality next time!

I recently crashed my WildHare Edge 540 (28%) and am looking to replace it with a 50 cc Yak. To keep the cost down, I am looking at either the AK Models (Rich Models) Yak 54 or the 50 cc RC League Yak 54. Both are priced about the same and come standard with CF tubes and landing gear. Any advise on which one is a better plane? For what it's worth, I'm not looking for something to do 3D with as I typically just enjoy flying around. Also worth pointing out is I have a Zenoah G62 that survived the crash and I would like to stick it on whatever I buy.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jr

Hi , my engine is a 102, the originally exit mufflers tubes were short on my round YAK cowling in order to exit enouhgt the cowling (they were inclined to the center of the engine). I replace the tubes with a 1/32 bigger the inside diameter and 1 3/4 " longer and keeped them incline to use the same exit hole in the cowling. the engine dropped from 6.400 to 6.000. The longer tubes have something to do with the lower RPM??

also I switch from 26-10 bolly to 26-10 Xoar both woods.
Following is a picture with the old tubes
best regards and thanks for your time

The UAV is almost done! All I have left is finishing the radio equipment installations, touch up the paint, and install the camera.

The camera is a KX191 and it has excellent quality. I think it's going to work well... Sunday should tell the tale though (maiden).

I squared off all the girly edges of the Easy Star, enlarged the rudder, and added ailerons to the wing (which will also act as flaps and spoilers). It looks nice! I'm using a Grayson Super Sonic V2 for power, which should be decent. Still haven't decided on gyros yet, but if I use them it will probably be yaw and roll.

Anyways, another update once it has flown!

Hi All!

I'm about to embark on a Giant Scale Project -
Convair 440 Kit - from Don Smith Plans.
Already met two friends - B.B. and Chip, in different states doing the same thing. B.B. has built and flown his - and Chip is on the way in building process. Are there any others that are, or have built this particular Model? Would really enjoy hearing from you about your experiences.

I recently bought a BME 50 classic and was wondering what for prop to run and how the power compares to DA 3W ZDZ and other 50s out there.

There is no great achievement that is not the result of patient working and waiting.

J. G. Holland

Today I maidened one of the most labor intensive projects I've ever worked on. Unorthodox looking and since I'm from the North West, it is "Green". Made out of recycled wings from my late departed Aviation Models Yak and the tail from a 33% Ace Extra 230 it was strange looking to say the least, but that wasn't all... The fuse is diamond shaped looking at the front and of a fish profile from the side. The labors were minor compared to someone who builds kits, but for an ARF man I was overwhelmed yet very glad to learn all that I did. The awesome part was this guy I met through a friend, took me under his wing and walked me through all the major aspects or things he thought were valuable to building. Not only that but he housed the plane and allowed me to spend 2 weeks worth of nights in his build area, at his house, to get this plane in the air. Not to mention that at 74 years old he was jumping up and down off tables to get stuff out of storage for the build and pulling countless midnight build nights. I felt bad until he out worked and had to send my dragging butt home a few times!! Thanks Gary so much for all your help buddy!! I truely could not have done it without you! We got to see the fruits of our labor as it broke ground today and with a few alterations will be a fun plane to fly!!!
