Ok so I know it's not RC related but most of my friends don't care about this and I know there are a lot of old school brit bike fans out there. These pictures are of a 1966 BSA lightning 650 that my father and I have been restoring for the last 2.5 years or so. It's not quite done yet but we just got it back on it's wheels so it is a victory of sorts. I fully rebuilt the engine and did the wheels while my dad is doing the chassis. I live in FL and he lives in Texas so it's sort of a long distance project but now that the wheels are done, my part is over and the rest is in his hands. We never planned on taking it to this level but when I presented the engine to my father on Christmas he was so blown away by how well it came out that we decided to do a full resto. My father spent a lot of time making tools to rebuild the suspension and meticulously rebuilt both gauges and calibrated them. While not a full concourse resto it will be about 95% correct or better. We are using powder coat and modern base/clearcoat paint instead of lacquer, we added electronic ignition (for reliability) along with a add on oil filter and there are a few non OE parts in the engine. Other then that it will be 100% OE. My Father purchased this bike when I was 9 years old (I'll be 41 in sept.) and it had major engine issues (cracked cases). With 4 kids to raise my father just pushed it off to the side and there it sat for over 30 years. I'm not a huge brit bike fan but this bike is special to me and will be be cherished for the rest of my life. Please feel free to post pics of your babies and resto projects. Show us What'ya got
