DA60 install

Started with a 1.5" hole then got out the dremel. Lost some real estate but carb has to be buried
or motor will stick out too far.

Had 4 blazing star mounts but not the 1"
Thanks to EF for still making it as DA claims standoffs not be used.

Looks real nice, if I tried to dremel the firewall like that... I'd have mangled the thing and it probably wouldn't even hold the motor up. I like that the standoffs give you easy access to the mixture screws.

Have you figured out how much prop- cowl clearance your going to have?

Are you going to have to cut out any of the floor to mount the firewall?

Thanks Eric,
I Will cut off the floor to the tri-stock and the motor is in the firewall so all I can do.
I'm thinking I'll be ok. Will use the sidemount muffler and cut out the drop down portion on the cowl bottom for air. That mount is made by Ext Flight. They took over the company called blazing star. It's 1" and is "box like"...one piece as u can see. Really makes for a solid mount.
Used to build model railroads so I put way to much attention to details but only way I know how. ....but trains didn't end up smacked on the ground.....hmmm

How's the rest of your build coming? Any problems with the wheels/ spatz and the axle length?

C'mon man, you got on me for being so slow, and here you are... dragging your feet

Ouch...lol. Snow today so had time to work on it.
Haven't decided on wheels yet...thinking WR.
This is my last build for long long while so Im just havin fun and gonna make a nice effort.
Got all the horns glued but not a whole lot to it after the motor mounting.
Just finished putting a DLE85 in my P47 so gonna use that DA60
Not quite broken in but I know it runs great.
The one in the pics is a NIB that I'm not sure what I'm gonna use it for and had it for 2 yrs now. Was going in this plane but found a steal on the 85.
Been selling a lot of planes lately and didn't really want another but have the
107" Doll and had to have this one. What a cooooool scheme! I'm really a Warbird guy but love to hover.
I'll post some more pics. Gonna use a hitec 7956 for the rudder and 7954 on surfaces and a 5565 on the throttle.
Fly safe!

Gonna have to whack 10mm off that floor to get to 1" cowl to prop.
Anymore than 1" looks odd.
Where are your flight packs located?

Firewall Glue

The angle mounts snapped right off so I would check those 6
M3 bolts holding it to them from time to time. Mine wasn't glued well as you can see.

Slower Build

Got my motor mounted and had to make room for the cylinder.
Prop to cowl distance is .75".
Hope to use DA side mount and 8oz can will provide a good test fit.
Gonna be close.

Sorry to take so long answering, I must have missed your post.

I mounted one of my batteries beside the fuel tank and the other back behind the switch on the ledge that holds the wing in the fuse. I strengthened the ledge with thin CA and some craft sticks first because it's not exactly the firmest of mounting spots, the balsa there is really thin but the battery (3s LIFE from Redwing) fit perfectly.

Your motor install looks real clean. Keep up the pics

Thanks Eric. Sounds like you weren't nose heavy....that's good. Will do.
Not sure what flight packs I'm using. Maybe 1500 2s x 2

I'm using (2) 2100 without an ignition battery. I staggered the batteries fore and aft more for convenience than necessity. If there were room, the batteries would have hit almost at the cg mark, mounted side-by-side... but then I don't have that monster Coke can mounted in the nose (lol)

Are you going to use the black plastic piece that goes in the front? I left mine off partly because I like to see the engine and partly because my cylinder head cooling fins stick out a little more than yours, so I'm getting good airflow around the fins without having to aim the air

Eric,
Not so sure on the fake radial as I'm with you about seeing what's inside and it's kinda cheesy anyway...not much there.
Have more cowl hacking to do. Will put a smile(air inlet) on the lower lip of the cowl to expose cylindar and really need to figure out what muffler. May end up giving JTec a shout.
A Pitts would fall in the wrong place...not like some(lol) and I won't cut the side out to make room for a beer can so may have them make me a thiner one.
I'll have some more pics up and as we know the build will go fast after motor and cowl are dealt with. Have some blingy stuff I'll be using as this is my last one for a long while.....just thought I would boost the thread by posting these.....such a cool scheme! Take care,Richard

Da60 install

Had to order a Jtec Compact with the pipes going straight down
(Not angled out and also cut off to 3").They did a great job and no extra charge.

The muffler mods kept it out of the drop down area on the cowl and makes for an EZ on/off cowl removal

Took a while with the Dremel and have a little more sanding to do but so far so good

And a little smile for cooling

Will post pics when I get it all sanded and
install Fourmost trim.
