Re: NEW EXTREME FLIGHT 78" EXTRA 300!!!!!!
It should be interesting to see the plane come in at under 14lbs.
Aero-works 78" comes in 13.5-13.8lbs, but has 200 less sq.inches. I would think that this one is more fragile than the AW extra's.... in order to loose over 2lbs it haas to come from somewhere...less wood, I wood() amagine!.... also, there main gear are alum. and has alum. re-inforcement for the main gear mount... Very solid.. but comes in penilty of weight.... Aw extra has some wing rock in the verted harriers.... I would guess that EF doesn't have any!.... If this is you 1st gas plane, I would go for the AW, as it is more durable.... If you want all out awsomeness, and can land gently, than EF's 78"is the one to get.. |

Re: NEW EXTREME FLIGHT 78" EXTRA 300!!!!!!
placing a 50cc in this plane is a mistake IMHO...
the MINTOR 38cc or the zdz40 lightened would be the engines to get for great pull... The SAP 30, or the Evo 26cc would would also do very well... piped... The evo would work great if you switched carbs (big bore walbro WT-540) placed a lightweight RC exel ignition on it, and placed a ceramic bearing .... Put it on a pipe and LOOK OUT>.... The EVO45 would also be awesome, but, again, switching the ignition to a lighter one, Would sure make things even better... and be able to actually take advantage Of that nice Magnesium case. Unless you use a CF pipe (ed's brand) you will add almost a 1lb to the build... This plane will replace my QQ 69" yak... |

more wood/weight doesn't always mean a stronger product.... From what I've seen of EF, their planes are designed to perfection. I've also seen a number of sh!tty AW planes..... This will be my first EF plane. |

Re: NEW EXTREME FLIGHT 78" EXTRA 300!!!!!!
Our 78 inch Extra does have aluminum angle landing gear mounts and has handled a year of aggressive flying and pure punishment. If the weather cooperates I will soon be flying a 12 lb. Syssa 30cc powered 78 Extra with an ES composites carbon pipe turning a Vess 18x6 which will produce 26 lbs. of thrust! I am very excited about this set-up.

Why do we have to wait till next year to know what this plane will handle? The first shipment has already been shipped out to everyone so we will be hearing opinions from the people that are actually flying them. I don't know of many E.F. planes that have gear issues, in fact I have seen the 50cc Yak and Extra pancaked in to the point that the gear was totally flat against the bottom of the plane, no damage to the gear mount just bend it back and fly. The electric versions that Chris has been flying are around the same weight as the gas version he has. I know the way Chris tests the airframes and I can tell you the airframe will be strong enough. I have flown the plane myself, it's the most precise plane in this size I've flown to date, yet turns into a 3D machine on high rates. It's totally locked in with both upright and inverted harriers and knife edge performance is great as well, if you've flown the 48" EXP just picture that blown up and even more stable and precise. I would never recommend someone buy something heavier that doesn't fly as well, I would recommend that they practice their landing skills before purchasing a plane like this since that would make more sense. I would really like to see the aeroworks plane get pancaked in more than a few times without damage. I would say if you do plan on smashing this plane into the ground stay with the aluminum gear so you can bend it back into shape. Lee |
