NEW: 50cc to 70cc MX Viper Build Thread

We have just received the prototype of this new project, and the assembly is beginning right away.

But first, a few notes on the MX Viper:

In 2014, Terry Wiles (Terryscustom here on Flying Giants) collaborated with PAU on the development of his original Viper. Terry had already scratch built several of his models, and his MX Viper was slightly enlarged for PAU. Ken Huber (Ken-H here on Flying Giants) complemented the design with a stunning color scheme.
This lead to the beautiful and great flying 100~120cc Viper we have produced since 2015.
Terry since moved on to other endeavors.
We recently adapted the design from this past collaboration, reducing the wingspan and making a few minor modifications to accommodate a DA-70 fully enclosed in the cowl, while keeping it small enough and light enough to be fun to fly with 50cc to 60cc single cylinder engines.

I will post here the assembly sequence I use. Based on the questions and comments I have received, it may help with the assembly of any PAU model, as they all require similar steps for completion.

As with any ARF, assembly has to begin with going over the entire covering with an iron, paying particular attention to all edges, overlaps, trims.. At the same time, check that the edges of all cutouts are sealed, and it is a good time to cut them out: wing tube, stab tube, servo wire passages, anti-rotation pins holes, wing bolt holes, etc. Servo bay holes in the wings can also be cut open at this time.

Once this work is done, a choice can be made:
- Assemble the wings
- Assemble the fuse
- Assemble the stabs

My priority is to install things that present no choice for location, such as motor, fuel tank, servos, etc.

There is no real preference in the order.

I am doing the wings first

Actually, right now, it is just a prototype for testing and evaluating.
We are not at the color yet.
Multiple colors always presents issues: how to manage parts inventory in multiple colors.
We pride ourselves on proper inventory of spare parts to support our customer, and we have a lot of dead inventory...until someone needs it...times the number of colors.

For hinging, I begin by taping the hinge line around the holes: I like taping top half and bottom half separately: it makes removal easier after it is all glued with ailerons or elevators in place. Then I cut out the holes.

Next, I prepare all the hinges by dipping the pin in melted Vaseline, then working the hinge back and forth to lubricate thoroughly.
Thank you TERRY for this tip!
