how much servo per wing would you like to use on 100cc and 150cc plane
Hi
I saw that some customer install only one servo per wing on my 100cc plane. and some customer install only two servos per wing on my 150cc plane.I already change my 33% YAK and EXTRA 260 desigh. It is 3 servo slots per wing now. you can use 1 servo or 2 servos. I want to know if I should change my design on 100cc and 150cc plane. to design the 100cc planes with the slots for both 1 servos and 2 servos per wing. like my 33% YAK and EXTRA 260. there will be 3 slots per wing , you can choose 1 or 2 servos. and the same design to 150cc aileron and elevator. help me to poll so I can know how to do. Thank you for your help. Tony |

Tony, from what I have seen from most all of the manufacturers you arent doing anything wrong.
Most all of the ARFS that I have seen around, the 100cc size were designed for the use of two servos per wing and one servo for each elev. On the 150cc size, most have three servo openings in the wings, on the the elev. they either have a place for one or two servos depending on the plane itself. On the 150cc size, it depends on the servos that you use to have enough torque, some of the higher torque servos you can use one inboard and one outboard. For flying precission you at times can get away with only using two in the wing and one per elev. If your doing freestyle then you may encounter blowback on the control surfaces and have to use more servos. I think your design is the norm from all other planes I have seen. |

Options is what I would like. One or two on a 100cc, depends on use. cant, wont comment on 150cc.

I would like the least amount of servos that the stiffness of the surface will allow.

Re: how much servo per wing would you like to use on 100cc and 150cc plane
Depends on the stiffness of the aileron on both the 100 and 150 sized planes. A soft aileron on a 100cc plane demands 2 servos. A 100cc size plane with stiff ailerons with the speed kept in check can work with one strong servo. A soft aileron on a 150 sized plane demands 3. If the 150 sized plane has very stiff ailerons and the mounting locations are well balanced it can fly with 2 good servos.
If I was setting up jigs and parts for either size that was going to have production runs I would design the wings for both sizes with three servo mounting positions to provide a choice for the users. |

Sorry. I think I did not say clearly. I mean that I want to know if I need to design the 100cc planes with the slots for both 1 servos and 2 servos per wing. like my 33% YAK. there will be 3 slots per wing , you can choose 1 or 2 servos. . and the same design to 150cc aileron and elevator.

Sence we are talking about servo requirments and control surfaces, my question is there a "tell from my plane" when I am getting blow back on a servo? Thanks

giving the customer the option of having one or two slots per wing half is a great idea! i use only one in my 35%ers and i am then stuck with a way to cosmetically tend to the other gaping hole in the wing! good idea!

The "gaping hole" thing is easy to handle. Lite ply covers with matching covering.
The original 35% version of the W/H Giles provided the option for using either 1 or a pair of servos. It had a pocket in the center of the wing for a single aileron set up, and pockets at the 30% and 60% positions of the wing for a dual servo installation. The user picked what they wanted to use and covered the unused pockets. Too easy and it was real nice to have the choice. |

With the higher torque servos of today, I wanted to run only two on a 40% Yak. Manual calls for three, now I have to decide and experiment witch servo to delete. I like the idea of selective aileron servos.

Three holes per wing half all covered over. This would handle all three options on any plane. Wish I could have come up with the money for a Pilot BEFORE prices went up. |
