Yep The Y header would be much easier,if you could get one for any of the twins that are made.
As far as I know the only one available here is the DA70.It has a round port so making it fit any other engine would be tuff. At one time we had a guy (Carl Muller) making aluminum hearers for any engine you could think of.But he got out of it now,so there is a business to be had by someone if they wanted to. The double inlet canister would just make it easier to fit any engine, but as you say it will cost some money. The factory side dumps just make it so much easier,if you can handle the noise. |

the da 70 Y header has different dimensions, I guess it will not fit to the rcgf 70, the Y header made for dla 64 will fit
as far as I know the DA Y headers are made by MTW in germany, MTW makes Y headers for dla 64 too, I think if you order a dla header from DA US and wait long enough, you´ll get a suitable Y header for the rcgf 70, but it will be no difference in price compared to importing of Duo 80 canister from PeFa IMHO, if you can solder your own headers for single cylinders, you are capable enough to build your own Y headers, all dimensions are available in the links I posted above, the rest is visible on the pics one of my flying buddies already soldered his own Y header for his dla 64 twin some 1,5 years ago, no big deal, works fine since it fits the rcgf 70 I´ll try to get my hands on it for a test run another option is to order a complete 2 in 1 Y header system (header + can) directly from MTW http://mtw-daempfer.de/en/two-in-one-system.html but it´s very pricy, twice the price of a Duo 80 canister |

All I'm doing for now is taking DLE35RA flex headers, joining them in a Y with a 25mm outlet, so it can fit most canisters. I can make a mockup, then send it to Bisson Mufflers, for mass production, though, if there is enough interest. |

UPDATE: the dla-64 Y-header will not fit to rcgf-70 , tried it yesterday the dimensions are quite the same, but the cylinder offset is different, on the rcgf-70 the "wrong" cylinder is in the front compared to the dla twin, they are mirrored , so to say sorry for the wrong info I posted |

Headers are made, RCGF engine on the way. Just need to use the brillo pad to get rid of the burnt flux and it's ready to be bolted onto the plane.
This was made of 2 for 35 RA stainless headers silver soldered together and mated to a 25mm outlet. I'm going to be using a large canister on this one to keep it breathing nicely. 3W L80 header from Aircraft International. |

Got my 70 from Tom last week. Got it mounted in my well worn, flown Hanger 9 yak. Started up fine. Just choked until fuel was dripping out the carb with the ignition OFF. Turned on ignition and she fired up 3 or 4th flip. Ran rough for a few seconds, died. Again choke on barked in a few flips, choke off. Again fired up and died in a few seconds. Next try she stayed running. Let it warm up at idle (2300 rpms) 3-4 minutes, bumped it up a few times then set the idle at 2100 rpms. Stopped the engine and let it cool off. Went back started right up, Ran about 16 ounces through it shut down for another cool off cycle. Next tank played with the needles and got the following numbers with a Falcon carbon fiber 24 x 9 prop. Good reliable idle at 1750 good transition up to 6350-6400, and a static thrust of around 29#'s + which should work out well on a 17# airframe. Will give a flight performance as soon as good weather allows

If it pops on every flip after choke it just is burning off the tiny amount of fuel in the engine and not enough to actually make it start. You can also choke until it pops, turn ignition off and flip 1-2 more times to get fuel back into the engine after the prime. Open choke and start. |

If you're not sure which needle...there should be a L and H next to the needle
