I wound up getting one of these a little while back with the idea of mounting a rebuilt OS 160 twin. The plane is pretty much assembled and I ran the engine for the first time last saturday.
Good news is that I was able to get her to balance at CG without having to add any weight. I did put the rx battere (4000mah LiFe) in the engine compartment. The bad news is that I purchased and installed a sullivan onboard glow igniter for the twin and it does not heat up both plugs like I was expecting so I have to use a separate battery on one plug to get her to light up. Thinking of getting the McDaniel system to fix that (never used one before) to fix that problem. I am very impressed with how well the 160 turns the 18x8 prop. I hope it translates well in the air. |

Hi everyone
I am close to finishing my Starlet model . I have used a NGH 38CC - To which I has a shocking long mounting distance of about 170mm . So in short I moved the cowling forward about 30mm to compensate. The graphic lines were not visually affected , but I had to install new cowl mountings lugs obviously ... This appears to have helped with balance CG as it looks like I will need no balast or very little ... I used stock tank fully forward and 2 x 2200 mah 2s batts mounted directly behind fuel tank . I will try a 20x10 prop with the 38cc and see how it goes I would like to know if anyone can confirm successsful 'CG' for this model other than just relying on instructions ? I plan to balance at 170 mm with slight up elev .. As I prerfer to trim down on maiden if possible ... So if you have flown this model please advise of CG details from your experience .. Andy ... |
