I am taking baby steps with it. So far I have 7 receivers and I have tested them in various combinations. All worked quite well. I'd like to test the RB20 with a Futaba 7008SB to check the 15 channel capabilities. Can you please share how this can be achieved? |

First - my assumption that the Frsky RB10 or RB20 might work with Futaba SBUS receivers is from the XPS channel expanders. FrSky uses the Futaba SBUS configuration on the XPS expanders and I read somewhere that their SBUS is the same. Spektrum, Jeti, Graupner have their own configs. I have (2) of the X10+ that I use with my Horus on smaller planes that needed 9 channels. Testing - Pretty simple - you'd need to buy an RB20, plus connect 2 Futaba receivers by SBUS to the (2) SBUS ports on the RB20. With the FrSky radios like the Horus, one would bind both receivers to the same model. Bind 1st RX to Ch 1-8 and 2nd receiver to Ch 9-16. Both are carrying the full 16 channels, despite that method to bind. I don't know how Futaba binds 2 receivers. You may need to disable telemetry when you bind the 2nd receiver. After binding and with both receivers and some servos connected to the RB20, just disconnect 1 receiver and see if you still have control. Then reconnect it and disconnect the 2nd receiver and see if you still have control. |

RCA A good way to test redundant receivers with FrSky, is to take advantage of their "receiver match" feature by temporarily binding one receiver to the next receiver number. You can then switch between the two rx by changing the rx number in the tx. This way, both rx are connected to the redundancy box, with one active and one in failsafe. Pete |

Also, how do you do dual Tx antennas?

Dual TX Antennas - the FrSky Horus has a single external antenna, and 2 internal antenna just below the top surface of the radio. Those internal ones are orthogonal to one another. One can select whether to use the external or internal. I use the internal antennas for diversity. Range is about the same with either internal or external antenna use. |

With FrSky receivers like the RX8R Pro, the receiver connections would look more like this, from the RB-20 manual. Note the S-ports are also connected between the receivers and the RB-20

this seems like a good way to get power redundancy without spending megabux on a Powerbox. i use Futaba...it sound like it would work but I don't know if anyone actually tried it. Would be nice to know. BUT THE MAIN THING is the two battery inputs. Is it a true lockout of a bad, shorted, or depleted battery? Or are the two batteries simply both hooked to the same power bus? Anyone know? Thanks.

Both batteries to the same bus. Batteries generally (and by that I mean the VAST MAJORITY of the time, don't dead short) and a depleted battery won't take down a good one despite the claims of the people that sell isolation gadgets.

It depends on the failure scenario. If two 3 cell lipos are hooked up in parallel, and one cell in one battery goes dead, the good battery will attempt to charge up the bad one at the 3 cell rate when there are only two there. This can lead to overheating, and perhaps a fire in the battery with one dead cell.

Just for grins. Take 2 packs. Charge one fully, discharge the other full fully. Attach both to the same RX. Go aways for a while and measure voltages on each.
Spoiler: the "full pack" does not charge the "empty pack". And you can prove it to yourself. |

What is the theory behind why it wouldn't?

While I don't have a bad battery to test this, I will have to try 2 good packs. In the case of lead acid batteries, they absolutely try to balance out. Especially when you have a bad battery. The bad battery will create a drain on the good one and bring it down. I run into this on a fairly regular basis at work.
