CRASH at the Reno Air races.. P-51... RIP plane.

From an email I received:

Lucky Canadians! See the strong left x-wind blowing the dust; I think it got under the left wing, and he may not have had the aileron/rudder power to stop it due to his low airspeed.
He actually landed cross runway because he was dead stick and didn't have a choice.

The name of the pilot is George Giboney & the name of the plane WAS Rapid Travel # 75.
The pilot did survive and will fly again.. race again... we shall see.

Pic # 6 is somethin else ....the guys in the foreground have no idea whats taking place. Wonder if he stuffed it in knowing that it could have ended up as carnage if he hit the jets? Theres a tanker there as well.........sheesh

Wow can you imagine after all that tumbling, you come to rest looking out at no airplane in front of you, and you're in one piece unharmed? Just unstrap and walk out. Man....glad he's ok.

Is that a real mustang or one of those 3/4 scale replicas? The prop and size of the plane seem kind of small for normal but maby not.

It's amazing how similar it looks to an RC crash. Same weak areas it seems.. CRAZY!
That guy is now living on a borrowed life.

I was there and saw it, it looked JUST LIKE an RC crash. Honestly I don't know how the guy walked away once the nose and the wing came off I thought it was all over or at least big time injuries. Thank God the guy walked away.

The guy was really lucky there was no fire.
In a few pics you can see what looks to be fuel spraying out.
I think the ratio is something like 50% (hear say, I don't have facts here) of airplane crashes are survived until a fire starts.
He is a LUCKY dude.

I sat in one of those Thunder Mustangs in Oshkosh. One sweet airplane. I didn't think they were in business anymore but I could be wrong. Mostly CF if I remember correctly.

He didn't stuff it in.. He was trying to land on a crosswind runway and it got away from him in the high winds. Those jets in front of him were actually a long ways away. Telefoto lenses do funny things.
