DA70 is a perfect match! Fits nicely inside the cowl using the Jtec or J&A mufflers.

I know the DA 70 is a good choice, just a little more than I would like to spend.

Does anyone have any experience with the GP61 or GP76 in this plane?

The plane had a DA 50 in it. It flew with that engine, but not very much left in reserve power trying to pull out of a hover.

Can anyone that flies this airframe give me an idea of where your CG wound up? I am toying with the idea of putting a DJ72 up front.

As is the case with all PAU planes, starting center to front half of the wing tube is always safe.
Then it can be adjusted according to your preference.

I’m no engine designer but there’s got to be a realistic limit on how large a single cylinder engine can be. I’ve not heard of DJ engine until your post. That’s not to say these are problematic engines with such a large displacement in a single cylinder package.

Personally, I’d be concerned about vibration with such an engine on my plane. That said, if it’s really well-balanced vibration may not be an issue. That’s where you need to talk to an engineer I guess. I’m absolutely sold on DA and the 70 is what’s being ordered for the 330. I’ve got an 11 year old DA50 and it’s a fantastic engine.

Mine has a DA 70 with batteries placed next to the rudder servo It’s a nice placement for good 3D and still flying decent precision style maneuvers. I would imagine that the DJ 72 would be just a bit lighter so I think it would be a good fit besides for vibrations. I’m already re-gluing the inside of mine with 50-70 flights.

In both my 50cc planes, batteries have always been right behind the firewall for a normal CG. I don’t fly them with an aft CG. The DJ72 and DA70 are within a few grams of each other according to the specs on the respective websites. That isn’t including mufflers and the DA mufflers don’t have a weight spec that I could find.

The fact that you’re flying 3D may well contribute to the need to need to reglue your airplane. 3D puts a lot of airframe stresses on it that IMAC flying does not in my my opinion. That said it’s good to know this and I’ll be taking a good look at the 330 construction before I stuff it full of engine and avionics.
