Extra 330 and Cap 232

Getting the Extra sanded and ready to cover. In between I have been working on the new Cap 232 126" as well. We just started looking at all the parts seeing the fit and finish. Started dry fitting the fuse parts and the cowl plugs are done ready for the parting boards.

Covering the Stabs

Back at it after a little break. Our prototype is going to a Airline Captain. Long time customer. Said I want it, we came up with a scheme that has his four Captain strips on the bottom.

When I can I draw the scheme in Cad and cut the covering like I have for 16 years. The cover cuts like paper. I use peg board as a table. Primarily because you can square up the covering on either axis. Last on these big planes I never use a covering Iron more than once. Covering planes since 1985. Nothing to me replaces a new Iron for smooth not wear on the shoe to a great result. So call me crazy but for that little bit of money, Ill take it.

Getting ready to gap seal the stabs. Will then cut and line up striping. Once done will finish the black strips.

What covering film are you using? I love the smell of Monokote! Brings back memories on all the previous builds.

We use Ultracote. I switched many years ago. Unless a customer wants monokte specifically.

Nice job on the gap seals. I really get nervous using a heat gun on the balsa sheeted foam.

Doesn't take alot of heat to lay it down. Main thing in my experience is nice clean surface, apply just enough heat slowing work to a corner. Also as your pushing the covering down keep applying pressure for 10-15 seconds to let it stick.
