Hi Tom,
Thank you for keeping us updated.
I am very interesting in this unit if vertical issue will be resolved.
Do you know if Panasonic HDC-TM900 camera will be supported for zoom?
Thank you,
Andrei.

Use this link to find out what cameras are currently compatible. They are supposed to be updating this as they add new cameras.

Following this thread with interest. Since SoloShot is located here in San Antonio and we have several club members that are interested in Soloshot, I invited them to come out to our flying field to do a demonstration. I thought it would be good PR/Sales/Mktg for them. That was 3-4 weeks ago. They have not responded which is disappointing.

While it doesn't appear that Soloshot is ready for the R/C world, I appreciate your review Tom and look forward to your updates.

Just back from the field with the latest attempt after loading the new firmware. It appears something has died in the SoloShot system. If I have to guess I'd say it is the tag as that is what has been vibrated on the plane. The last flight last week the camera was just waving around at nothing in particular and I thought perhaps the base or the tag was out of battery. Today though, freshly charged and the camera didn;t have a clue where the tag was so I will message SoloShot to see about getting the unit back to them to be checked out.

They have a feature in the tag where you can tap it three times to put a break in the video to mark a special point but on a gas airplane the vibrations keep tripping that and you get dozens of little videos rather than one long one. Definitely have to come up with a better way to mount the tag on gas planes.

I'll try t post an update once we figure out what went belly up with the SoloShot outfit.

Still no joy with the SoloShot2 but I have heard from heir support that there might be an issue with the tag, specifically a board within it. That makes sense as that is the only component getting vibrated as only a gassser can do.

Most of you know that I have a lot of skin in this SoloShot2 and though it has been frustrating I still think it has huge potential for my work in RC flying. That said I am going to stick with it and will see if I can get another tag to try their new firmware that is supposed to help the vertical performance of the SoloShot2. If they have that part of it fixed we might really have something beneficial for those who want to record RC planes in flight.

STay tund!

Quick update. Have been talking with SoloShot and they are now sending me a whole new unit as determining which part of mine is responsible is too difficult without having it on the bench. I still suspect the tag but am happy with this solution as it should take care of all of the possibilities and get me back up and running the quickest. I won;t get the new unit until Monday so it might be another week before I an get out to the field to really try it out but will post back here once we do.

Soloshot replaced my unit entirely to be sure we got bad component out of the loop. Then I loaded the latest firmware update and went out toe the field last night in way too much wind but I was short on time, storms were coming and I wanted to get some video. It works way better and you can see that in the video.

Good review Tom.
Very thorough. Thanks so much. Solo shot is lucky to have you testing out their product.

Thanks! I was getting close to giving up but between their big firmware change and their offer to replace the whole unit to make sure we got it right they are way closer. As is the footage is great overall. If they can step up the vertical some more they have a home run.

If anyone has successfully used the SoloShot on a low wing gasser, please let me know how you mounted the tag to isolate it from the vibration. You can reach me at [email protected].

If you are thinking of using the SoloShot on a non high-wing gas engine plane you might want to hold off until we figure out how to isolate the tag (the part that goes on the plane) from the vibration of the engine.

So mounting it on foam doesn't do the trick?
