I check this section often to see if there is any new threads or comments and nothing lately. I can't be the only one who would enjoy discussing or reading about actual flying. I think the information in here is out dated, and could use some discussion about the new unnamed (as far as I know) maneuvers the pros are doing in competitions like xfc. Like this one at 4:36. It's like a super tight rolling loop or rolling snap, I have no idea. If someone could tell me what it is then teach me how to do it, i would appriciate it.

I think that is a Lomcevak at 4:36. On another site they are showing some different diagrams of maneuvers.

The maneuver at 4:36 is a 1 1/2 full snap to vertical upright. There are names to all of the maneuvers, a lot of them are combinations of some things.

What exactly is a "Full Snap"? That maneuver was not a snap at all, it looked more like a very tight rolling loop/jamming the sticks in the top left corners and catching the nose as it is pointed vertically. While you are correct in stating that there are names to all maneuvers, many things done by most of the "top pilots" nowadays are just variations of rolling elements with a few full power push/pulls thrown in.

Just out of curiousity.. What is a Slick 580? Glenn Dell built several Slick 360s, and the Slick 540 prototype, but that's all he built before he was killed, sadly.

I think Extreme Flight came up with the '580' term, you'd have to ask them.

Couldn't tell you exactly, I'm not the one that named the element. I should revise my statement in saying that it is called a "1 1/2 inverted full snap to vertical upright" being that it starts out inverted.

A full snap roll is 1 snap roll. What's in the video is not a snap, nor is it 1 rotation. It's very much a shoulder roll though, where the airplane is not autorotating at all, but with the severe control surface deflection is showing a lot of yaw displacement.

While it does start out inverted nothing about that maneuver is a "Snap" it is a same direction aileron/rudder roll with down elevator applied. Point being, if people want names for these types of maneuvers a basic understanding of the aresti catalog and how maneuvers are supposed to be presented wold go a long way in correcting many of the misconceptions out there.

From what I can see, it is infact a snap roll, but I didn't name it, and I don't bother with IMAC/Aresti or any of that.

Snap rolls are aerobatic maneuvers used in competition aerobatics, so essentially they are IMAC/Aresti terms. That maneuver in no way shape or form is a snap roll despite what your uneducated guess might say.

580 (actually 583 cubic inches) is the largest extant Lycoming flat six that could potentially be installed in a Slick airframe, so it's a bit "fantasy scale" until and unless someone does it for-real. 580's are used in Sbach's and Extra 330's.

It is a variation of a pop top in the form of a climbing rudder spin. To do the maneuver pull vertical at full throttle add right aileron right rudder and full down elevator and keep full throttle
