Re: GILES 202 Whatever happened nobody flies these?

If I'm correct the 40% WH Giles is a 100cc plane.

Span: 106"
Area: 2,020 sq. in.
Weight: 24-27 pounds

Giles are small planes.

I think he meant the Fiberclassics Giles was a von Linsowe design. Wasn't Richard Giles the designer of the fullscale series?

The Wild Hare Giles can be effectively flown with an 85 or 100cc engine. There is no extra lightening efforts required to hit between 25 and 26 pounds. Mine hit around 25 lbs, 10 ozs. using a Brison 6.4.

I also have WH Giles 40% with DA 85 & KS 95 canister, weight 24.5 lbs ,fly so slow & nimble, have unlimited vertical. By far the best rolling harrie plane I ever own.

I would have to say that the Giles is great precision aircaft.

The Wild Hare Giles (new version) is huge and it will fly great with a DA-85 under the hood. I would recommend this plane.

If you were interested in building one, it wouldn't hurt to ask Dennis at Carden if he will cut you one.

I think it comes down to this.........

A 40% giles is the size of a 35% plane. When the IMAC circuit "feels" bigger is better as far as scores then people would want a 50% giles that is about the size of the 40% IMAC planes.

Now when you get to just 3D folks........How many that are already flying have a 150/157/170 size motor? I'd say quite a few. So they buy larger planes than the Giles.

The guy that designed the Giles was not Dave von Linsowe. I work with the designer of the full scale Giles and he definately isn't a Dave.
He is saying that Von Linsowe designed the Comp-arf Giles. I am not sure about that, but he did design one for himself to compete with at the TOC, and also a pattern version that I believe was marketed by Gator or Von linsowe himself.

I will be the first in line for a 50cc Giles if Wildhare offers this plane! Hands down, the best flying "pattern-ship" designed to date!! The straight trailing edge and tapered leading edge does something for the soul. Just my opion.

I have always loved the lines of the Giles. It think it got such a bad reputation from people building .40 size ones which were too heavy. Making them snappy.

I have the CMP 71" with a Brillelli 26 on it. It's a rocket but not really a hovering machine.

I always thought this WildHare version whas the most beautiful RC plane period. I wanted one but they don't make em anymore.

I think they are gorgeous planes. I have a TopModel Giles (78 WS) seen below. I maidened mine yesterday and it was tail heavy which made for a bumpy ride. I'm going to adjust the CG and fly again today, weather permitting.

I'm also looking at a bigger one made by Mibo. http://mibomodeli.si/trgovina/index....67&language=en

And Aicraft International has 3W Giles - a small one (level two build) is on sale right now.

Re: GILES 202 Whatever happened nobody flies these?

Hi y'all!

Since there was a lot of mention and questions about our Giles, I thought I'd offer some clarifications about the Wild Hare Giles.

Our 40% plane is indeed a 100cc class airplane, the full scale G202 had only a 22' (264") wingspan so 40% is just about 106". Our original 35% Giles (Wild Hare's very first plane) was 93" span.

The new 40% Wild Hare Giles is available as a fast-build ARF, all pre hinged and the canopy/hatch is completed. The weights the guys have quoted are accurate, we did a lot to get it this light. It's just as happy with a DA-85 or DA-100 or any 100cc twin. It has a canister tunnel and a cowl that mounts on a ring so it's a very nice looking planes. The wings are huge, it has a 2100 sq. in. wing area.

We took some liberties on control surface sizes, so even though the plane is super stable it can be tossed around in 3D as easily as an Extra or Edge. We also made some changes to the cowl design, the full scale Giles has a seriously ugly cowl and we cleaned it up and smoothed it out a bit to make it a really beautiful plane.

Regarding the MX2, from what I understand they bought the design rights to the Giles, but the MX2 is a totally different plane that has the same shape to the fuselage. It's a couple feet longer than the Giles, is fully composite, and has a totally different wing.

To those guys who think they know the Giles, they probably don't. It's about the nicest flying plane made. It has a feel that you don't get from other designs which comes from the sweep on the leading edges. It only takes about a minute on the sticks before the pilot says something like "wow, this feels way different".

I have heard many people say "The Giles doesn't present well because it's so short". Clear evidence that they know nothing about a Giles. The G202 actually has the second longest fuselage-to-wingspan ratio of all the popular aerobatic planes. I forget which one is longer, but it's only by a small percentage.

We just received a new shipment of planes about a week ago in these two schemes.

If enough people were serious I'd love to make a 50cc Giles. Let me hear from you.

I flew this one at the '98 TOC. It was a 43% designed by Mike McConville then kitted by Pirate models. Very nice flying plane.
