Raven is coming along slowly. Just setting up fuselage now with electronics. Wings are all done with. I could finish in a day or so but I'm just working on it little at a time.. Have to cut cowl also & mount blind nuts still. Yes had to enlarge the holes to install the phenolic horns. They didn't fit at all... Maybe maiden in a week or so possibly..

I ordered a Walbro carb, Bowman ring, Valley view fuel tank. I am going to try this one more time. I have to repair my landing gear, and going to block off my side inlets and put air dam at exit. Hopefully the raven will see better times soon! I’m really looking forward to getting some more time on this plane! The six minutes I actually got to fly it was pure gold! Thanks for you guys‘ suggestions and good luck getting yours ready to fly, I can’t wait to hear other’s thoughts on this airframe. Kinda surprising there’s only three people in the whole world trying this plane

No I didn’t space mine out. It is really close but I just ran with it. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt a thing to space it out with a washer. Where are you mounting your throttle servo? |

Well I got my landing gear repaired. I like the way the landing gear is done, aluminum U channel with two carbon fiber rods going through. Then plywood on top of that with long tabs going into the front former. I ordered new carbon fiber rod since the original ones broke. I made three long wood tabs to go back into the original slots, and used the old carbon laminated plywood piece on top of that. I failed to get pics as I was doing this but I think it turned out ok without too much added weight.
I did make one really stupid mistake and positioned the aluminum U channel backwards so the three blind nuts are reversed. The landing gear doesn’t seem to angle forward like some, it seems to be perfectly square so I think it will be ok. Now waiting on Carb, fuel tank, Bowman ring. I’m worried I might have wasted money on carb because I didn’t realize before, it already has a walbro carb on it. It does seem like a little fuel was sleeping out around the carb and reed valve gaskets. Maybe it had a slight air leak causing my woes. I might try using gasket sealer, sanding reed block mount and send carb back. I should be posting this in the gas engines threads but I don’t want to make a new post there are plenty of DLE 35 threads with similar issues. Seems most people have resolved their issues and like the engine so I’m gonna work with it for now and hope for the best. Anyone get their Raven ready yet? (TTaylor, AKNick) I will hopefully be flying mine by next weekend. |

That's good you got LG repaired. I was thinking of buying a replacement carb for my DLE 35. I did order a rebuild kit for it thou. Maybe interested in the carb if you decide to sell it..Been working all week so no work on the Raven has been done. Hoopefully maybe can fly it next weekend.. |

QUOTE] Do yourself a favor and buy new carb/reed block gaskets. If it's an air leak, this is where it's happening, could become more prominent once the engine gets hot too. I would stay away from gasket sealers, might cause you more trouble later on. Most are not designed to be around fuel. You can end up with a piece getting stuck in a reed overtime. Just use new gaskets and don't over torque those two bolts. The reed block mod has to do a lot more with fuel draw at idle - an inconsistent idle may be from this, over all it's probably not worth doing at all 95% of the time. Look it over, make sure there isn't an imperfection, and move on. I don't have a raven coming yet, admire, and drooling over it though! |

I might be open to selling you the new carb if you decide you want one. let me see if there are any differences in the two. I’m a little confused about a genuine Walbro versus a Chinese made copy. Are the Chinese ones still marked Walbro? Good luck getting some time for hobbies! I’m sure you’re gonna love the plane when you get it done! |

I just received a DLE20 and 55 what both had Walbro on it. Fuel nipples are brass instead of plastic (DLE version). Other than that you really cannot tell other than quality control. Usually just dry. The last rebuild I did, I dapped a little redline on the check valves. |

I got her all put back together and test ran engine yesterday. Seems to be running good so will hope for a successful re-maiden this weekend 😉
I’m trying a richer fuel mix ratio and richer needle settings. Also blocked off the front of cowl twin air inlets. I got a telemetry temp sensor and my temps went up to around 350 with no cowl on the test run. Does that sound like a normal operating temp? I left my plane out in the sun too long and the canopy warped. It’s like it bowed up so that you have to push real hard at the back to get it to latch. I sanded some of the middle part out but it’s still pretty bad, I’m wondering if I should try warping it in the opposite direction and spraying a little water on it, or possibly hit it with a heat gun? Any thoughts or ideas on this? |
