They are the hydraulic cylinders that actually push the calipers together! Over time as the pads wear the cylinders have to go out farther and farther to apply pressure. The cylinders can corrode and upon pad replacement they may not recede enough to take the pressure off of the pads thus heating up the whole disc as the wheel rotates!


How many miles did you say you had on the pads that are now in the vehicle?

the rear pads have 150,000
the front ones were recently7 replaced, so I would say, under 10,000 miles.

150thou on the rear that is most likely your problem check the calipers and the rotors as well caliper replacement is fairly easy but I would recommend having the rotors turned to make the surface nice and smooth make sure to have the thickness of the rotors checked to make sure they are not past specs the grizzz

total cost for me to do these repairs, 260 dollars.
This included some tools I purchased as well.

brand new rotors X2, and heavy duty ceramic brake pads.

Let me call the dealer and see how much they would have charged me to do this work...

nice job most dealers charge 75 to 100 $ an hr plus parts at full price the grizzz

Great job Cam. Once you see how to do the job it is fairly easy to do right? LOL.

Oh yes, been working on cars since age 14. Oil changes, spark plugs, changing belts, rebuilding engine (1st time age 15), rebuild cars (age 16), etc...


Probably how I was able to become an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Just love to fix things! Good with tools.

That and you are good at putting jigsaw puzzles together!! LOL!

Brake jobs are just too easy to do yourself then to pay hundreds in labor to let someone else do it. Being as meticulous as you, like myself, I trust my work on something as important as brakes a lot more than I trust some stranger, no matter their experience. At the end of the day, you have peace of mind, self satisfaction, and hundreds saved of doing it yourself.
