Have fun!

Here is a fresh video from Joe Nall edited by Ben Mackles who also flew the plane in this video.

Nice video, but the music is not necessary - but I am an old git!

I have a line on a 70mm drop 2 into 1 header for a da70 engine. Would this fit?

New Build

I started my Extra 330 build tonight. This will be my 3rd giant scale airplane 2nd build. This will be powered by a new da70. Hopefully no one minds me tagging onto this thread.

Since I had issues with my 35cc pilot kit, I'm now re enforcing the landing gear area on all my planes. So the first thing I did was remove 4 of the 6 bolts that hold the landing gear brackets and replace them with 3mm hex head bolts with much larger washers on the back side.

Then I epoxied some light basswood between the angle brackets the tank tray. This gives the angle bracket something to push against verses elongating around the small bolts if the bolts happen to come loose..

Next I pinned the firewall with small servo screws. These are installed with CA glue. After the firewall has been drilled for the engine I will use some thinned epoxy to seal the engine compartment.

The last thing for tonight I mounted the graphite landing gear.

This is what I do on all my planes and it takes care of any firewalls potentially getting loose. I had one come loose years ago before I started doing this method, but none since. It is easy to do and takes hardly any time.

Today was spent making a motor mount for the da70. I laminated 4 pieces of 1\4" ply and a 1\8" then cut and shaped to the outline of the da70 mount. It took a spacer of 1-1\8" to get a suitable gap between the cowl and spinner backplate. One that was done I hung the fuse from the rafters in the workshop to drill the fire wall. Unfortunately the center line on the firewall was off on mine so before you drill yours I suggest hanging your fuse as well and check the alignment of your motor.

The last thing for today is I glued the hinges in on the stabs and rudder. I used hysol 9462. I've changed out all the hinges for Robert hinges. Not saying the Chinese ones are bad but I'm not going to find out. Like others I clean each hinge with denatured alcohol then dipped the hinge line in melted Vaseline. This worked well on my viper so hopefully it will work again.

I got a lot done over the weekend. Got the wings hinged. They came out great with no binding and full deflection under there own weight.

Like the elevators I'm using 4mm x 65mm hex head bolts with 4mm nuts. You have to drill out the gold cone nut then use a lock nut to snug up the bolt. Then the gold "u" fitting then a second lock nut to keep the "u" fitting from turning (in the photo of the elevator link the jam nut is not tight yet). Then use the a dubro 4-40 ball link with its hardware along with the supplied ball link on the pushrod. This will give you a very reliable solid setup.

Over the weekend I got a lot done. I finished the engine install. I made a manual choke pushrod. I installed a old helicopter ball link and ran a carbon rod through it for support.

Then I finished up the cowl and wheel pants. Don't forget to support the wheel pant on the outside with a wood block.

Getting closer.

Question though, Will the da-70 need baffling in this plane?

Baffling is highly recommended.
I used 1/4" thick creative foam from Michael's, and first made paper templates, then CA'd the foam into place.
That foam loves my thick CA.
