Re: Let's build a prop bolt pattern list

The early 106 had the compression releases. Later models do not.

My ZDZ 120 and 160 Champion's prop pattern is not the same as the DA 100's. It has a slightly bigger diameter.

Re: Let's build a prop bolt pattern list

MVVS, 3W and ZDZ follow certain patterns of 6 bolts. MVVs: 26, 35 and 40cc have single M10x1 central nut; 45 and 50cc have 26mm, 6xM5; 58 and 80cc have 29mm,6xM4; 116 and 152cc have 35mm,6xM5. The large 3W have 34mm pitch dia.
Add the US and China 4-bolt patterns, and you get real close to having them all.
The Ralph single bolt system is dangerous, because it might fool the combined bolt pattern users into thinking that the central bolt has the most important part. I will not speak for other brands, but MVVS and subsequently Evolution uses the central M10x1 bolt/nut to tighten the prop drive up the crank taper. The remaining 6 (or three) M5 or M4 bolts are used to tighten the prop to the prop drive. One cannot replace the other, because as always, form follows function!

PS Ralph,
I did try the single bolt metod in MVVS 58cc tests, just for ease of changing props. Bad YuYu, the prop slipped badly until I put the extra clamping force of three (out of 6) M4 bolts on. The other three completed the assembly, but also added to the crush load on wood props. Upon assembly, the bolts run free, upon disassembly they dont. This indicates there still is prop slippage that the bolts shearing force prevents. Bad YuYu again!.
I made up a larger prop washer set to lower the specific compression load and end the crush compression, and forwarded my findings to MVVS. They will surely need some time to digest it, then some more sheared prop bolts complaints, and then at last decide to do what they had to do all along. I probably am gone by that time.

Re: Let's build a prop bolt pattern list

Could be dangerous, but the single bolt will not unscrew, only get tighter..
Our 289 race engines use a single bolt threaded into the crank..The taper is about 1 degree and over an inch long..It takes massive force to get the hub off the crank....30 hp, 8500 rpm..Two 1/4 x 20 bolts ensure there is no slip...They DID slip once, and sheared..The Prop stayed on..Our fault for not checking tightness of the single center bolt..

same pattern 29mm as for the 58. There is only one jig that has multiple patterns. 116 and 152 have the 35mm pattern.

You are right ralph, IF the engine has been designed with a single central prop hub that can take the load. Some engines however have the central bolt to fasten the prop drive to the crankshaft taper, and the central bolt torque should not exceed the force needed for the taper assembly. Excessive loads will distort the prop drive and can even split it. In such designs the prop clamping is provided by both the central bolt and the extra screws.
I would rather have a single central bolt for all the well known reasons, but hey, you have to make the best of what is handed to you in the engine design.

The OS GT55 and DLE-55 have 4 M5's on a 30mm circle. The Aerovate 20cc has 3 M5's on a 30mm circle.

My 3W 85cc Comp. Series produced in 2008, it is not the same as the other 3W 85's. the bolt pattern is 34mm not 29mm.

Dont have the exact dimensions but my ZDZ80 has the same pattern as my DA85.... only difference is ZDZ uses smaller bolts for the six..... I used my ZDZ prop drill jig to drill a prop for my DA85.... only had to upsize the 6 holes to fit larger bolts of the DA... then it fit perfect

Re: Let's build a prop bolt pattern list

Hey All, I've been updating the prop bolt hole pattern list for a while and think I have all of your information included (along with other data I've acquired) in the latest version below. Please have a look and validate/refute the information in an effort to get it right. The idea is to create an accurate, living document that can serve everyone. And I'll add engines as I acquire good information on them.
