Man I would sure love to see this thing perform on a DA-60, 85 or a 3W 70 or 80 twin... Plus needs smoke!!!! I have the RC Guys in my garage was next on my list to assemble but may skip to check this out a bit first... Nothing like seeing a Decathalon Hover. Saw first at Hodges Huckfest with the Pilot 100cc version...still cracks me up. I also see the financial justification but would prob sell 2:1 with a $1000 pricetag.

Hey Guys,

Look at it this way. At 122" wingspan, this is really a 40% plane. The good thing about it you don't have to use a 150cc engine on it. Personally, I think the plane is a very good deal at $1300. Then throw in the fact that you can get a custom scheme at no extra charge. I will probably put this plane on my list soon. I bet a DA60 will rock this plane and an 85 will make it a rocket. Thanks Pilot-RC for bringing such great planes to the market at reasonable prices.

Re: Pilot RC 50cc 122" Decathlon

Guys, I understand and appreciate what you are saying, it can be looked at as a great deal on a huge wingspan plane, and I don't completely disagree. But, wingspan doesn't make it a 40%'er... The Decathlon has around 6 feet more wing than a Yak 54, and about 8 feet more than an Extra 300. If it is anywhere near scale, the fuse is significantly smaller than a 40% Yak or Extra. Now I do appreciate Tony's comments that the fuse is more complicated, with extra structure, windows and doors, and that the built up wing takes more time, but I can't fathom that the Decathlon fuse is bigger than the Yak.

Here is my frame of reference, both of these planes are 98 inch wing span, so did I get a good deal on a "really 33% Decathlon" ? I did get a great deal actually, the Decathlon was half the price of the Extra....

Looking at that pic, remember that in full scale these two planes are close to the same length.

Now, carbon fiber and a "free" custom scheme are worth something, certainly....

Really, I'm not arguing, like I said before, Tony has every right to charge what he wants and needs to make a profit All I am saying is that the price, especially after shipping, is too high to put it on my "must have" list. As someone else said, if the price was under $1,000 they would sell 2:1 what they will at $1,299, and even then, it's a lot for a "50cc" airframe.

Not trying to argue, it looks like a great plane, I hope it does well. I wasn't going to post any more about the price, but here is the other side of the "great deal on 122 inches" argument...

Any plans to make a float kit for it?

That green and white scheme looks good!

Tony,

Awesome job at this bird. Looks great to me! I wish I would of still had a 50cc engine cause I might of got one of these. Keep up the good work.

Oh yeah IMO the RCGUYS decatholon is a POS. I know been around one, actually I built it for a buddy. TOTAL POS IMO.... I am sure this is much better than the other mentioned... Just sayin

So all in all this is a bargain when you add everything up.

If people don't think the price is fair, they can buy something else with their hobby dollars.

I agree too!

That green and white scheme looks good!
If the model flies like it's full scale brother it will not make a good float plane, the tail moment is too short giving it less authority than needed. It will fly on floats just not as good as others out there.
