I am a DA fan boy but the GP engines look like a great engine for the money. If all other variables were equal I would stay with da because its mostly made in the USA and supports American workers who provide a first class product and first class service if and when the time should come for repairs. All the engines listed on this post are great and proven powerplants . P.S. GIZMO WHO HAD THE HEADERS YOU NEEDED!!! nuff said .

This thread get my attention....
If anyone here who can prove he has both DA 85 / DLE 85 on plane...in use. I am very willing offer him a GP-88 EVO without charge for test and do a side by side compare with them in RPM Vibration smooth All you have to do is "telling the truth" By the way......this offer not include shipping |

Now, what limits the ability to see gasers are clubs like mine, i have flown there for 25 years and it was traditionally Nitro, then electric, and so far my one buddy and i are flying Gas the most and their are a few retirees that started flying 20cc and 30cc during the day while we are at work, so i have no idea what they fly, but i will check in with them now cheers |

Yup, no-one is stocking a friggen header for the ZDZ's, or at least for the ZDZ80RV, go figure... I searched for a week+ for a header and even dealers had me call and email the manufactures (MTW & KS & Proflow, etc), and even they said nope they don't even make them for a ZDZ engine, so that double sucked.... it seems me falling into ZDZ's is Rough after the sale... So get this, it turned out after a second call pleading for any possible match, the one rep stopped and thought and said, "You know what, i just remembered, we have a stock of 50 ZDZ headers that we can NOT sell, been sitting in stock forever, they ordered them in some time in the past and they are all 2" drop wrap around for a ZDZ engine. so i said i needed a 1" drop by rough measurement, and purchased it at a risk, and BAM, the header matched perfectly to the frame and canister setup (so yea, a rough measurement isn't always valid, smack me ). So, pass the word on, DA has ZDZ headers in stock until they sell out, go figure. Without this gem find in a black hole, i was up a creek with my shinny new proflow canister, man, thanks to DA for saving the Day!!!!! There was NO dealer on the face of the earth that i could find who stocked or could order a header, so this doubly scares me now for any future ZDZ |

Hmmm, you gave me good food for thought, i totally forgot or only heard of those other brands on rare occasions like at JoeNall, say yea, just becuase i never heard off, does Not disqualify them from my consideration Now i love the fact that BRBR is willing to help me from Europe so i don't have to waste money throwing a motor away, that hurts, so i am going to hit BRBR up and maybe he can help me get the piston (i can get cylinder and ring from AMR at a great price), or heck, depending on price and shipping weight, maybe get all parts from BRBR (cyl, ring, piston, wrist pin, gasket), heck, that would save me so my time money and trouble to swap engines, like i say, i love my ZDZ's !!!! |

I have used Desert Aircraft-engines for years.......and so With EF-planes. I have to say that DA is a very good engine, and i mean that. I have never had any issues exept one ignition that quit after 2+ years, but that can happen to all brands. But over a year ago i happend to get in contact With Fergus, GP-owner. He told me that GP-88 had less vibrations and about same Power as DA-85. I got very curious and trusted Fergus for all he had shared With me. My first GP- arrived after 5 days from Taiwan. This was the first ones and it was not an evo. I was so smooth. This was the first thing i noticed and fell in love With the 88-engine. But i thought it could have a little more top rpm/Power, but i really liked the engine because of smooth running and easy tuneing. Not sensetive, just normal. Then when the 88evo came out i sold the standard 88 to a friend and got me an evo-version. The evo have the Power i was missing on the other 88 i had, and still very easy to tune. I have flown With both 27x10 and 26x12. But i like the 27x10 better. Engine on cans. If you are after max rpm, maybe 26x10 is best, but it have great Power With 27x10 and very smooth. Sorry for long post............... Two Things i dont like..........or its just one now, because mtw have made headers for GP-engines Or you can use DA-header With a adapter that planebender sell So the one thing is that my evo have no high voltage ignition (its 4.8-6v), but i think its just the 88's that dont have that. My 123cc and 61cc have 4.8-8.4v. I dont remember the rpm on the evo. Probably not more than DA-85, but about the same i think. But its much smoother in mid-range. I have never had a deadstick because of engine-trouble, but had one because of throttle servo loosen Parts from Taiwan to Norway are 5 days and Fergus take care of his customer. Maybe you can get parts from us-dealers too?? I am very interested in engines and it seems like these engines hold up very good, but we will see. I have about 65 flights on my 61cc and no problems so far, but you cant tell before 2-300 flights at least And for those who Wonder why i was going from EF to PAU, For years i was a teampilot for a shop that sells EF-planes, and for a long time i have tried to get PAU planes. And when i quit flying cometitions and writing tests...........and finaly get the chance to get the planes i have wished for years, i for sure did it. Hope this helps. Maybe some Call me a fan, and maybe i am, but i tell the truth and what i mean. I see my self as very serious. PS: I have much fun With flying rc............its not fun if you dont trust your engines. Sorry if my English is...............not Perfect Best regards |

I had a ZDZ 40 many, many moons ago. I was very happy with that.
I owned a DA 100, not the L, the old version, sold it a month or two ago, never had troubles with it. Had it for about 6 years. Dla 112 is still in my garage, rebuilt it after 15 flights out of my own pocket as nobody wanted to hear about my problems. It is running fine and has done about 150 flights. Just got my GP 123, it has 20 liters of fuel through it and is the most powerful engine I have had the privilege of owning. It comes highly recommended. Gizmo, buy what you want and what suits your pocket. If you like DA, 3W and can afford it buy it. There are engines out there that is as good if not better at much lower prices. My 2c |

If you are in the US then all the parts and service are done here. All of the gp engines now come with the hv ignitions. The standard 88 makes the same power as a da85 the evo version makes more.
